For over 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II met with many American presidents and had a close relationship with the U.S., where she was loved by many. On America’s 200th birthday, the queen spoke about ties between the U.S. and the U.K. saying, “Your Declaration of Independence broke that link. But it did not for long break our friendship.”

I'm an American and wouldn't never consider myself a monarchist, it never even really crosses my mind what it would be like to live under a monarchy, but I still had a special place in my heart for the Queen and I was a bit shocked when she died. It felt like some piece of the fabric of American history was gone, even though she was the British monarch.
