absolutely amazing video -- I have a bunch of Stihl saws --- my oldest is a 35 year old + I have two 661s - both seem to die after long use -- almost like an overheating problem .. my high tech solution is just to switch saws- thank you so much for this video.

Hey bro, I’ve got an older early 2016 661c that’s not starting, wet plug every time. And a weak (if any) spark. My local dealer tells me there’s 5 different coils for the 661 and they no longer make the one I need. I am assuming the coil needs to be compatible with the solenoid?
What I want to know is, will one of these repair kits with the coil and solenoid, work in my saw?

As always, thanks for the great information! It's good to see what the progression of the parts has been. It's hard to keep up with it if a guy isn't in the loop. My Stihl dealer is a tractor dealer first, so they don't get into all the intricacies of the saws, they just sell them. So I'm glad to know what is what, so I can at least make sure I'm getting the latest stuff WHEN I buy one. Your videos have proven to me the can be good and reliable saws. It's time to step up from the 660 to the 661!

Do they have a update kit for the 441c? I have 441c that just dies when it warms up. Been to 3 dealers 5 times and still not fixed. All of dealers keep saying it’s a dirty fuel filter. It’s on its 3rd fuel filter with less than 2 hours run time since the problem has started. 2014 model saw. A couple times when it died I could not get it to start.

Hey man i have 661cm like neww i put it away ..and it rain great . Now it wont start..??? I put new plug, checked fuel filter, took apart checked spaceing on flywheel coil.clean gas piston looks great i cannot get it started hurts to pull it seriously. All my big saws fire rite up.????😮it has tons of compression so i checked it has the white solenoid on the carburetor like your videos ..so what else could it be besides the Intake boot seemed ok ???

I was wondering if maybe you can help me out…
I’m working on this saw but something is not right..
It’s a 2016 saw..
I have put in the new kit so it’s up to date on that.
I did the reset 90 second on start and it just idles normal for all that time.
Then on startup it idles for a 2 it 3 seconds and then it goes screaming full throttle. Do you know why or what is going on for it to do that?
I’m afraid it is going to blow up…then one time I couldn’t switch it off so I had to try to choke it but now I’m able to turn it off via the normal way.

Can I make my 661 CM into a tunable carb. If I get the tunable carb, wiring harness and ignition? The parts manual says the fly wheel off a 661 and the 611 CM are the same

I understand you don't follow 441's, but I figured I'd ask the question. My friends 441c-m has the black solenoid and vrs 4700 B coil. During long cuts it doesn't want to stay running and just cuts out, almost like a switch. I checked and cleaned the normal (carb, plug, spark arrestor) but everything looked fine. Would you recommend the similar kit for the 441 to bring it up to date? Does the kit work on both 441 and 661?

excellent video! you can even hear it just idels much nicer after the new coil, even before calibration/reset. so, i've got a MS661c i bought 2nd hand, i think its a 2013 one, so one of the first so i've checked and its a 4700C coil, does the latest coil fit all variants of the 661? as in i won't have any issue buying the new kit and fitting it?

Hey what is the orange pickup body? I have a 661cm DOM 4-19. The coil is black and white solenoid. Saws in the shop right now for possible air leak. What are you calling the orange pickup body?

Very cool video I like all the info I just bought a new 661r and did a muffler mod after it broke in and loving it for sure cpl questions I have is that saw ported in video? And I notice mine sounds a lot more limited no load rev once I'm in the wood it's cleaned up sounding does porting make it scream like yours no load or something else to get that result?

That is some good knowledge I just dont care today. Now the 661 is begginners saw rights at 90CCs SOB just put detroit diesel on it. Saw has to be mean but Id take 462 IF I WERE FORCED TO OWN A STIHL sorry guys Im in Illinois the dealers suck. the saws are overpriced. Hell what aint new pickup truck cheapy is $50k now. CL junk $5000

Do these solenoids issues effect all m tronics or only the 661? I have an m tronic 362 so I’m curious if there’s anything I might need to do down the road.
