If your Chainsaw Won’t Start. Do this!!

If your 2-stroke chainsaw won't start, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue and potentially get it running again. Here's a general guide to follow:

Check the Basics:

Ensure that the chainsaw has enough fuel and that the fuel mixture is correct. Two-stroke engines require a specific fuel-to-oil ratio, typically mentioned in the owner's manual.
Confirm that the spark plug is clean and in good condition. If it's dirty or fouled, clean it or replace it with a new one.
Make sure the air filter is clean and not clogged. A dirty air filter can restrict airflow and affect starting.
Ignition System:

Check for a strong spark at the spark plug. If there's no spark or a weak spark, the ignition system may be the problem. This could be due to a faulty spark plug, ignition coil, or ignition module.
If the spark plug and ignition system seem fine, ensure that the spark plug wire is securely connected.
Compression:

A chainsaw with low compression may not start. To check compression, remove the spark plug and use a compression tester. If the compression is significantly below the manufacturer's specifications, it may indicate an issue with the piston rings, cylinder, or cylinder head gasket.
Fuel System:

Check for fuel flow from the fuel tank to the carburetor. Ensure the fuel filter is clean and not clogged.
Inspect the carburetor for clogs or blockages. Sometimes, debris or old fuel can cause carburetor issues. Clean or rebuild the carburetor if necessary.
Exhaust System:

Make sure the exhaust system, including the muffler and spark arrestor screen, is clean and not obstructed. A blocked exhaust can prevent the engine from starting.
Prime and Choke:

Use the correct starting procedure, which usually involves priming the engine and setting the choke appropriately. Follow the chainsaw's owner's manual for the recommended starting steps.
Fresh Fuel:

Old or stale fuel can cause starting problems. Drain the old fuel and replace it with fresh, properly mixed 2-stroke fuel.
Professional Help:

If you've tried all of the above steps and the chainsaw still won't start, it may be time to seek professional assistance. A qualified technician can diagnose and repair more complex issues.
Remember to always prioritize safety when working with chainsaws. Use appropriate personal protective equipment, and follow the manufacturer's safety guidelines and recommendations provided in the owner's manual. If you're unsure about any aspect of troubleshooting or repair, it's best to consult a professional.

Thank you and I hope you gain something from it.

+ check the ignition switch
+ check the priming bulb (if applicable)
+ check the choke lever (if applicable)
But hey, I am just a beginner so trust the Man above ;)
Cheers

Take the plug out and dribble a little fuel in the head, put the plug back in and try to start it. If it starts then it sounds like you have a fuel delivery issue, in my experience most of the time people don't run them out of fuel before putting them anyway for the season and the carburetor will varnish.

Absolutely amazing video I want to be an arborist when I’m older, and I recently got my first chainsaw. I screen recorded this and added to my favorites in my camera roll👍

To check spark take off plug wires, take out plug, put plug back in plug wire and rest on something metal, watch for the little sparks when cranking. (Don't touch it)

Nice Zenoah Clone. Have you deleted your base gasket yet? I used Permatex Ultra Grey (Hondabond) in place of the thick paper gasket they like to use on these. Gained 15 PSI of compression. Another thing that helps a lot is to find the LARGE 2 port (the ports will take up 3/4 of the distance between the 8mm nuts) muffler with no internal baffle. Between those two and making sure the carb isn't pig rich it will scream and cut a good bit faster.

I have a yizbao that worked once. Now it wont start. I've done all i can to figure out the oddities. Choke out is on. Trigger up is on. Guard back is off. Fuel fine. Filter new.

This is why the average homeowner should NEVER buy gas powered chainsaw. They're high maintenance, often difficult to start, and require a certain level of mechanical knowledge that most people don't have. They'll get used until the first time they don't start, and then get tossed in the garage and forgotten

And don't store gasoline in chain saw if it is not in use...
