The escalating conflict in the Red Sea with the US and Great Britain launching airstrikes against the Iran-backed Houthi militia has massive impact on the economy. Car manufacturer Tesla recently announced to halt production in Germany due to supply chain disruption. More companies are expected to follow. Since December, major shipping companies including Germany's Hapag-Lloyd began travelling the longer and more costly route around the Cape of Good Hope, which takes container ships an additional two weeks and oil tankers one more week than travelling via the Suez Canal.

For how much some people talk about the military industrial complex, most companies benefit far more from peace than from fighting.

No problem shipping from USA.

Maybe Germany can contribute to the defense of the free seas since they benefit greatly from global trade.

And just another reason that just in time inventory is a joke and always was.

Sounds like it’s good to be an oil company…. any excuse possible to charge us more and increase their revenue and all…

And thus the question arises. Why isn't Germany sending warships to the Red Sea? 🤡

Maybe it's just historical context as to why DW opted not to use the word "halt"(s) production as they should have in the title. ;)

This is one reason why we're switching to geothermal. I need consistent energy prices and didn't like being depending on volatile oil prices.

Tesla must be kicking itself, for building it's Giga factory in Germany - Ukraine crisis caused energy security issue, and now with shipping supply chain disruption, affecting Tesla's bottom line in it's production cost. What is coming next ?
