I drove a 2022 civic sport and 2023 HRV sport. The HRV felt stronger cause it was AWD. But I bought with the Civic because it handles super smooth. It felt like I was driving a porsche or miata without the power. If I could go back, I would make that same choice again.

I just purchased a 2024 Honda HR-V EX-L AWD, (Modern Steel Dark Gray Metallic/Black Leather) and love it! I just wish Honda had more color choices for the HR-V's

That lot looks sadly empty.. just a few long years ago, the lots would be jammed packed full of cars. I do love the HRV- I have one on reserve, hoping it comes in a few weeks.

Nice comparison video! For driving fun I'd go with the Civic. It weighs hundreds of pounds less than the HR-V. Should have better acceleration and handling. The Civic trounces the HR-V in sales figures too.

I had a 2020 fit ex. I was looking the last couple of months as I had 8200 equity in my fit. I checked my insurance company. If I got a 23 accord EX or LX my insurance was going up 445, a 23 Civic hatchback my insurance was up 440. If I got the 24 HRV EXL my insurance went up 235. I got a 24 Red HRV EXL with blind spot. I only have had Civics accords and the 1 fit since 2004. I got the last HRV available at the dealer who was not jacking up prices on add ons or adjustment. I paid 28, 000. I have to say I feel safe driving it and love the upgraded interior. I wish it had better MPG, but I work at home still. Between testing the civic hatch and accord, I liked the accord better. But for lower insurance increase, get the HRV EXL.

Great review and comparison of those two new Honda Civic platform vehicles.
I really like the new Civic generation of cars…. So more upscale at the price point. To me the hatchback is the best design of the Civic choices and really like the Sport Touring trim, but….. I liked more the new generation HRV and settled on the EXL trim. Ofcourse nothing in stock at the local dealers in or near Fort Lauderdale Florida so I looked at the Honda website for inventory and found amongst the very few HRVs “in transit” to my local dealer an EXL version Lunar Grey with Grey interior (thankfully the interior color choice that to me was a must in this hot Florida weather) and I quickly put a deposit down in this car last week. Now I’ll probably have to wait between 1 to 2 months. The dealer did call me yesterday to tell me that they had just received a HRV EXL in Modern Steel Metallíc with Black interior and offered to switch me to that car right away but I declined because of the interior color. So I’m still firm on the Grey interior……I’ll wait.

The Civic Touring sedan and Sport Touring hatchback both have turn signals in the mirrors too. I see the HR-V has gloss door pillars only found in the Civic Type R and eHEV. There was in fact an earlier Euro HR-V 1999-2006. A shame they won’t offer the 6MT in the HRV, when the last gen had it for the first 3 years.

Wait for the hybrid version of each if you can. If not, go for the CRV/RAV4, Accord/Camry hybrids.

I was hoping you'd comment on performance and applications?? I'm considering moving from a civic to an HR-V as I enjoy the outdoors and going on roads that aren't necessarily friendly to Civics, but can't fit a full size SUV in my garage. So what are the pros & cons of the HR-V in this case? Aging is also a factor. Is it easier to crawl into and HR-V compared to the civic?

Are you sure? I thought the CR-V was on the Civic platform and the HR-V was on the smaller Fit platform (Fit is discontinued).
