"Perhaps if a quartz movement looked as good as a Lange chronograph..."
Grand Seiko glares from the corner.

I respect both mechanical and quartz for what they are and what they do. As a professional who requires absolute accuracy, a quartz movement is essential. As a collector, I love the intricacy and craftsmanship of a mechanical. Hence, I love both types.

I wish more quartz watches had open casebacks to view the circuit, battery, etc. I find them cool to look at as well.

Comparing mechanical watches to quartz is like comparing steam locomotives to diesel or electric. Sure, there's more romance in steam, but the new technology is waaaay more performant, reliable and efficient. Also, we taught a rock to keep time. How cool is that?

By far the most interesting quartz technology has Seiko with their spring drive mechanism.

Come on! The Grand Seiko is clearly the best quartz watch in the world, with an astonishing attention to detail in every way... How could you let it out of your list.

Definitely should include a The Citizen HAQ with either an A060 with 5 seconds a year accuracy, or the 0100 movement with an incredible 1 second per year accuracy. I find these movements, being a self contained and powered quartz, to be amazing. Incredible technology wrapped in beautifully made and finished watches.

That oysterquartz is nice but Seiko is the king of quartz. People care when you mention Rolex but Seiko gets left in the dust as usual lol.

I have several Quartz watches which I love! Mechanical is fun and all, but when I need real practicality, I go for one of my quartzes. I know they're always on time, they won't die after 40 hours of non-wear, they're inexpensive, and overall just good stuff.

Wow! that movement inside the oyster quartz looks stunning, I would expect nothing less from Rolex, decoration and all
Hope I can get my hands on one of those one day

I don’t mind quartz watches at all if they have a battery hatch where we can easily swap or remove the batteries instead of having to take the whole back case off potentially scratching it, getting dust in or damaging that stupid gasket. Like Swatch for example which has the battery outside

Don't forget Bulova's line of 262 khz quartz watches. They're very accurate and have sweep second hands that are smoother than many automatics and mechanical watches.

I'm surprised Bulova's Precisionist isn't included.

A lot of the electrics that predate quartz are extremely interesting, I have a modest collection of timex electrics one being the exact model worn by Dexter on his eponymous series my favorites are the Dynabeat models that are every bit a smooth sweeping as the majority of mechanicals today. Hamilton also has quite a few electrics which I plan to start collecting, it’s amazing when you are holding one and think about how far that technology predates quartz. Seiko’s “twin quartz” movements are quite interesting as well, and I can’t believe you didn’t mention spring drive.

I noticed the second hand on the speedmaster does not hit the indices. My 50 dollar Casio mdv-106 Duro hits them perfectly.

How about Longines V.H.P
+/- 5sec a year.

The Cartier Tank is a great quartz watch, no second hand makes it quite desirable
