What's up guys its Ollie from history profiles and today's video will be about Charles the second the King of Spain. Charles was a King, but he was also cursed, this was a consequence of inbreeding as his ancestors had tried to keep their bloodline pure. But the result was devastating on Charles's physical and mental health. Anyway let's get into the video.

Haven’t watched the full video yet, but my absolute favorite quote about Charles came from the physician who presided over his autopsy; “His body did not contain a single drop of blood; his heart was the size of a peppercorn; his lungs corroded; his intestines rotten and gangrenous; he had a single testicle, black as coal, and his head was full of water.” Another good quote about him is “always on the verge of death but repeatedly baffling Christendom by continuing to live.”

such a sad little man, I think He can be forgiven for his crimes if his disabilities were as bad as you stated, he was more of a puppet king. Probably just doing what those around him said to do. All those exorcisms were bound to effect his psyche, not to mention his deformities . (Also, Its not easy being ugly, at any time in the past or present people are terribly cruel) He was bound to have a warped idea of good and evil, if not life and death itself.

I've done so many studies on this family but can't never get enough

I have seen Charles's family tree, or rather his family bush. Generations upon generations of uncles marrying their nieces. Only this particular part of the Hapsburg family was this extreme, at least. Poor man never had a chance of having a normal life with that much inbreeding. I'm pretty sure he was used by everyone around him, considering all of his problems.

That line dying out with him was a big favor to anyone that could have been born into it afterwards.

I always wonder what would have been found with modern diagnostic techniques.

Poor Charles, he probably didn't even understand most of the things going on around him.

What such an interesting story of such a sad life . I wasn't aware that the intermarriage was so i close to the family. HE has a miserable life indeed despite the luxuries of the court. Thanks for the upload. HP.

This guy just all around never had a chance either. He was pretty much a puppet king and did what was told by others. I'm also sure all those excorcisms had taken its tole on him. Another great video Ollie, always such great content.

Thanks for this. The Spanish Hapsburgs are fascinating and there is surprisingly little on YT about Charles the Bewitched. So glad you covered this. Could you do Juana the Mad as well please?? 💕💕

Living with what he had and what he had been through, I say that he has lived through Hell and deserve a piece of Heaven. I can't help but feel sorry for him. Being in a position to be able to have advance learning, to read and write during a time in which 90% of the average folk couldn't, and yet it was taken away from you do due to assumptions that is bad... that hurts. We now know that reading, writing and being exposed to an enriching environment would've helped Charles to combat and overcome his mental disabilities... not all of it, but enough to get him to be self aware and aware of his surroundings, preventing him from being a puppet to corrupt statesmen and noblemen. He would've been able to have the ability to avoid those atrocities. Unfortunately, his right to a proper thorough education took that ability away from him. The fact they only allowed him to hunt and be good at it was properly what influenced him to go after and hunt people but from a statewide point of view. 🤔If he was exposed to literacy and diplomacy, he would've been good at helping and salvaging his state and kingdom better. I blame the way he was raised and his disabilities rather than blame him as a man. The title of being a man was taken from him since his birth and prevented from ever being developed in the first place. 😥😔Poor guy.

That poor sad unfortunate man.
If his brother hadn't died I wonder what would have happened then? 🤔

Imagine being a royal painter put into the position of trying your best to avoid depicting these people in a way that's too unflattering....

You have to feel sorry for him, he was manipulated from birth until death, by others intent with their own agenda's, being criminalised because of his attendance at the trials, no doubt at others behest, his postmortem really gives a very good reason to keep the population gene pool viable & why close relation marriages should not happen

No I don't think he should be blamed. It has been said he didn't speak very well & only few could understand him. I think with the water in his head & his tiny brain he was just used by others to have their will done.

We would consider this "practice" at 1:02 as incest. Don't know about European countries, but in America it's been frowned upon for decades.

I've known people who are "slow" in varying degrees, which I suspect Charles probably was. These people are easily influenced by others, because of wanting to please everyone. With all his mental incapacities, I doubt Charles was of sound mind. It was more than likely he was easily persuaded to initially attend those trials. I wouldn't be surprised if his "advisors" threatened him with harm, if he didn't do as he was told.

No, I don't think Charles should have been held accountable. Because I doubt it was really him making the decisions for anything...
