I passed my check ride on Friday, 08 May 2020. Thanks for your videos, really helped very much.
I will put videos in my channel to what helped me as well.
My #1 tip, preparation, show up on time and be very well oorganized.
Thanks!

Wished all DPE’s had this attitude like this guy.

Great Video! Loved hearing his perspective. The only thing I would add which took me years to learn is that it’s just another flight that you’ve already done several times. The examiner is not looking to fail you. You have to give him a reason to. So just relax and enjoy the flight.

Perfect timing. I have my first fixed-wing checkride tomorrow or Monday depending on weather!

Jason thank you so much for doing this video!! Short but full of so much info, I was actually mad there wasn't more LoL!! Steve Randall made me feel so much better about having a certain mindset for check rides. I'll probably still be nervous, but I'll remember this video!! Thanks again, fly safe be safe!!

Excellent video Jason - thanks for sharing these perspectives - which apply universally - no matter which phase of learning we are.

Thanks Jason, I'm at the point of my check ride now and yes I am scouring the internet for good advice on a great outcome

I’ve followed Steve’s Instagram page since before I even started flight training. I now have my ATP and am flying for a US regional airline. His page has been inspirational for me through my entire journey, and his advice is spot on in this video. I would love to fly with him some day!

Even though statistics don't directly apply to an individual, it also might ease some people to know that the average checkride has a pass rate around 70%, if not higher, and that includes the "hard" ones like instrument and CFI initial.

Like it was said in the video, when you're ready, you're ready. No instructor with any brains is going to send a student to a checkride if they are not highly confident you will pass. Plus, the worst thing that happens is you bust a maneuver and do what else you can, then finish up the ride later and just do what needs to be redone. You don't go back to square one.

That was a great video. One of my favorites. Real life.

We reiterate on every preflight brief: ‘No fast hands in the cockpit’. Just like he’s saying- sit on your hands and assess the situation first, then follow SOP.

Good stuff as always. My DPE was satisfied with me pointing to my tabbed F.A.R. section 91.205. Hell he didn't even give me a diversion or a distraction during the practical exam. Stay cool and confident, you wouldn't be at the checkride if you weren't ready for it.

Regarding the ACS, I would say don't try to read it all the way through. I would read the intro stuff and the appendix stuff just to have some idea of the surrounding package and then go through and make a simple list of the headline items for the test (ignoring stuff that doesn't apply like seaplane or multi engine if you are doing SEL). By headline I mean general topic titles and the names of manuevers. Then when you go to study one of the items on your list go back and read the detailed ACS parameters for just that item, even before you get out the PHAK, flying handbook, ACs, or any other source material.
This method helps prevent being overwhelmed and leverages the rule of primacy so you do your studying and practice from the perspective of the actual test parameters. This way you know when some opinion is really inline with the ACS, or when it may be out of date or need further clarification and citation of sources.

This was great advice, thank you for this.

I heard a story about one technique to move things along. Someone said he/she/it went into the briefing room a little early and turned the thermostat ALL the way down. I was told that after about 30 minutes, the check airman started picking up the pace. ;)

Thanks for the great content man... It's coming up on CFI Initial time. And I'm a check ride choke artist! ;-) I'm oddly more comfortable with this one.

This video needs more views. The (I think) best movie to see an appropriate response is 'SULLY'. Contrast that with (again) Tom Hanks in the plane crash scenes from 'Cast Away'.
