"If you don't mind" > "By any chance"

I don't even know why. I simply prefer the first one.

I work with people that I must ask their age and type of disability which are both a little touchy. I always follow with "if you don't mind me asking".

Depending on the circumstances, most people will be offended if you ask a personal question for no reason, and age is one of the questions that should be avoided. Unless you have a reason you need to know someone's age - like you're helping them fill out a form, they've asked for the senior discount, they're trying to buy alcohol or cigarettes - don't ask someone their age.

Also, in personal conversations don't ask how much people make, how much they weight, do they dye their hair, are they wearing a toupee, how much their house or car or jewelry cost, is their ring a real diamond, are they biracial, etc.

Adding "if you don't mind" won't make it any less rude or socially objectionable.

Does it matter?
If two people are inlove. I don't think ages should be a problem!
Would you rather.be loved without a doubt, or would you be with someone within the age range you desire, and not loved nor inlove at all?
I'm just wanna be inlove with someone, who's inlove with me, and getting along well!
Don't ever ask the persons age. Simply ask: "are you above the legal age!
