Math 205 JW Lecture 5 - Exponential functions and Logarithms

Welcome to lecture 5 of Math 205 JW - Elements of Calculus.

In tonight's lecture, we continue our discussion of exponential functions. We look at the graphs and remind ourselves about the laws of exponents. We will look at word problems involving exponential functions later in the semester, so for the moment we are satisfied with only looking at their graphs and algebraic properties.

We then move on to logarithms, the inverses of exponentials. We define them, talk about their important properties and use their properties (as well as those of exponents) to simplify expressions.

We will look at their graphs and solving equations involving logs and exponentials in our next class.
