I think the biggest problem the U.S. would have if it invaded North Korea would be finding what to do with the thousands of N.K. troops all surrendering hoping for a hot meal.

north korea's spy satellite is basically one walkie-talkie tied to two balloons

A more fair fight would be the US Coast Guard vs North Korea. Those guys have to fight drug runners and the North Atlantic, they are no joke

The US/South Korean forces could probably avoid some combat situations by simply promising NK citizens and soldiers food, water, and safety if they defect.
The easiest way to win a fight is to make your enemy not want to fight in the first place.

The North Korean military budget is the same as the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

If we’ve learned anything from when Saddam Hussein ran Iraq, take special forces with a grain of salt as Iraq’s literally ran away.

I recall that either the USN or US Army War college (not sure) did a force study and war gamed the NKPA in time of war. This was 2008. They rated the North Koreans could sustain a campaign of full conventional war for 30 days but noted that aging equipment, lack of spares and mediocrity of training and combat flexibility would impair whatever numerical superiority they would have. I get the strange feeling that the North Koreans have gotten worse, not better, since 2008.

I would bet that what North Korea calls "Special Forces" is what everyone else would call "Standard Infantry." Everyone that isn't Special Forces in North Korea goes by the idea of "Cannon Fodder."

The entire time he was giving the breakdown of the NK forces, all I could think was "That's adorable. NK will be turned into a parking lot for SK if the US deemed it strategically necessary/beneficial"

Don’t even gotta watch but USA would definitely win

If only the NK people knew that the US is really here to help them

the only thing north korea has is lots of cannon fodder, considering the recent effectiveness of north korea artillery in the ukraine i don't think the south and the usa have that much to worry about at all. the russians are finding out the hard way how bad north Korean equipment is.

special forces are potentially a bit more risky because of their ability to infiltrate the south and the most likely use off the book weapons that are not available to the regular military so they can definitely do some damage.

I hear that an army runs on it's food... something that the entirety of North Korea wishes it actually had.

When I was stationed near the DMZ we went through threat briefs with our Apache units. The biggest issue would be the first 72 hours to a week that they have enough artillery to bombard to the north side of Seoul. With most of the DMZ also being an active mine field we and them have limited routes to allow armor up or down which instantly creates choke points. Even with our mine clearing capabilities from Iraq and Afghanistan with IED to clear it still takes time and leaves many troops in vulnerable situations. And then the environment is hard to pass except during the winter months while everything is frozen. And the big issue would be would China jump in to assist NK again.

I believe that with how Habitual Linecrosser puts it, any US fighting here would be one continuous war crime. It would not be pretty

If no other nations got involved, I feel like this hypothetical showdown would be totally one-sided.

The only reason that North Korea 🇰🇵 is considered a threat is due to their alliance with China 🇨🇳 and so in truth NK is nothing more then a temporary barrier.

North Korean soldiers are trained to look excessively sharp on parades in front of their lead god. That arguably looks good but it’s totally useless in any battle situation.
