Why North Korea wants a war (sooner than you think) | Mapped Out

North Korean weapons tests have become so common that they're often dismissed as empty threats. But with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un newly emboldened, another conflict with South Korea is no longer off the table. We're used to seeing missile launches from North Korea and dismissing them as empty posturing. But Kim Jong Un’s rhetoric has changed. And arms trade with Russia seems to be emboldening the North Korean leader. Is it about time we took him seriously?

A user has made us aware of an error in a world map shown in the video at 12:55. The map of Russia cuts off part of Siberia and wrongly shows Crimea as part of Russia. Crimea is part of Ukraine and was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014. This is shown in the map at 13:21. Thanks for pointing that out!

A solid video but it’s obvious the clickbait title was thought up later - no strategic or tactical reasons given as to why a war sooner than we think is actually what he wants

Send Kim a large supply of McDonald's cheeseburgers and some fries. Should calm him down a little bit.

They don't want a war that would free the people. He wants attention. Being irrelevant is not fun.

The Ukraine war has allowed North Korea to sell its old outdated missles, rockets, artillery, ammo, and firearms to Russia. So that they can replace their stockpile with brand new ones. Plus it gives them insights into how their military equipment works in a war setting. So the war has been heavily benefiting them.

I think how far and how deep the cooperation between North Korea, China, Russia and Iran will go
will also depend on the behavior of the cooperation between South Korea, the United States and Japan.
One point worth mentioning is that China is North Korea's ally, not just a political ally, but China and North Korea have mutual defense treaty, if anything happens to North Korea in the future, China must help North Korea.

Kim needs to shoot some hoops with Dennis Rodman and chill out.

After WWII, the US and Soviet Union agreed basically on the 38th parallel dividing the Korean Peninsula. A war ensued, in which around 2.5 million people died. An armistice agreement was signed, reverting back to the original dividing line. So…2.5 million died for nothing. Our species is insane.

Last week went to S.Korea. Spoke some locals there. 90% of them says conflict between NK and SK is just media hype. NK knows if they attack SK they know the end game.

To be honest, not a few Koreans want war. Especially intellectuals and nationalists. We earnestly want unification and only one Korea on the Korean Peninsula. Now Korea is one of the most powerful countries in the world, especially equipped with a strong military power. We are just afraid that the opportunity will disappear if we do not unify at this time.

Man let me tell you, in the middle of the night I’m definitely thinking about North Korea, but then I wake up to reality and laugh so hard I fall back to sleep.

As one U.S. general said, "It would take three days for a war with North Korea to end. It would be over day one, but it would take two more days for them to admit it." The U.S. could take out all their operations in mere hours, and they would never even see it coming, let alone be able to stop it even if they did.
