Christopher Hitchens vs Ben Shapiro would be a glory or riches worth every dime of one million big ones.

Ben Shapiro is the reason why the 0.75x playback speed exists.

Actually Ben, it is written that Jesus conveyed that morality was written in the hearts and minds of people. Also Paul's argument was that no one would have to mention both subjective or relative morality to another due to it being written in their hearts!

This dude speaks so fast I can’t even catch his words. Is it his trick when he makes an argument?

Ironically, the "revelation" he speaks of is subjective. Which God? Which holy book? Faith is subjective belief in something there is no direct evidence for.

Oooh, I have some issues as a Christian with what he says.

1) That Jesus came and gave a moral code. Not completely. He fulfilled the law that I could not and died in my place and was raised for my justification. What he taught was not new, but pointed to my own moral INABILITY.

2) that Christianity is a meld of Greek philosophy and Judaism. Ben would disagree, but the Old Testament clearly predicts the suffering servant from Genesis through Malachi. The New Testament is in Greek because that was the imperial language of the day. That spread the Gospel to Jews as well as Greeks.

Ultimately the Gospel is not a way of life. Rather it is a declaration of actual historic events that took place. Namely, that God sent His Son as the God-Man to live the perfect life, fulfill the law to set free those who are slaves to sin and death, redeeming mankind that all that trust in His perfect righteousness may be saved.

Now, there is moral law revealed in Scripture and that is unchangeable. That I agree with Ben

As an atheist, I try to base my morality off of well-being using logic. If something harms or causes pain to a person then it isn’t desirable. It changes with certain circumstances and “, I think, is more reliable than believing rules put by someone else 2000 years ago because now our thoughts have changed. Slavery was once thought to be acceptable but we realized that those people shouldn’t deserve to suffer from birth

Morality is more cultural than Religious.

Morality from the biblical god? You've got to be kidding me.

1) In the bible, god says it is okay to own foreign people as slaves for life (even being able to will your slaves to your children, as property, until the slaves die), and that the restriction to not rule over your own people ruthlessly does not apply to your foreign slaves.

2) In the bible, god says that if a slave owner grabs a rod and beats his female slave bad enough that she dies after a day or two, that the slave owner is not to be punished, because she was his property.

3) In the bible, god gave Satan the thumbs up to kill all 10 of Job's children, for what god himself said was without cause or reason.

4) In the bible, god punishes people for things they didn't do, had no control over, and weren't even born yet when the bad deed was done.

The question isn't how can one have morals without believing the bible, the question is how can one have morals and believe the bible.

Morality, authority, and property are subjective

Force, empathy(voluntary exchange) and survival are objective which varies in degree with each individual of how an application and situation takes place

With reason we create subjective value systems for our survival (and personal gain)

These subjective value systems become laws, religions, cultures
They are sells on our mind to farm each other for self preservation or an "idea" of self preservation. There is no collective only individuals. We communicate through body language, and vibrational tone more than language itself. We compete with one another for a sense of self identity..which sounds hypocritical..because it is ..we have two eyes and live in a magnetic field ..."polarity" we're all hypocritical

There is no objective morality. Why is this a matter for debate?

Not in a way Hume didn't like, in a way that is actually illogical. Facts don't care about your feelings, Ben, tut-tut

0:39 "there's two basic approaches to morality both of which rely on an unmoved mover"

And since no evidence has been shown that proves this unmoved mover exists, those two basic approaches can be dismissed until proven.

The real problem is that modern society cannot seem to agree on anything as being absolute.

If tomorrow someone in power decides it's a good idea to make half the population sick, for example, and gives reason for doing so, it does not make it just, or good.

There is good, and there is bad, and there are things which are up to us to choose to use for good or for bad.

It is a tragedy to think we can leave the issue of morals solely at the whims of the subjective changing mind to decide.

A lot of Christian "morality" is nothing but PRUDISM anyway, which I think people can really DO WITHOUT.

Sam Harris gives a good argument for objective morality.

This is a spot on summation of the situation. What I took long classes on in pursuit of an MA in Philosophy, Shapiro sums up in about 4 minutes.

He answered nothing. He gave a brief overview on a few historical perspective, then concluded we need God. There is no objective morality, humans can’t observe the objective universe, only the universe from the human perspective. So all morality stems from human emotion and empathy, agreed upon by humans themselves. Reason is the slave to the emotions.

In order to obey your God's commands you cannot have your own ideas of what is right or wrong. You simply believe everything God tells you to do is good. Even if it's killing kids.

Lmfao so unless theirs a person saying God said it he can’t accept it as objectively moral
