Also even if having children was a requirement to get married, ADOPTION IS STILL A VALID WAY OF HAVING CHILDREN

I like how Shapiro says "I don't make policy". Yes you don't make policy, you are not in congress.

"That's how it's always been done" is highly dependent on how far you're willing to look back.

Ben does not like gay marriage. Fine. Then he should not get gay married. Problem solved.

Shapiro, self proclaimed libertarian, is concerned with a personal relationship’s utility to the state. Interesting.

Supposedly Jesus had two dads, and he turned out ok...😂

My husband/best friend and I were married for 32 years before I had to nurse him to the end thanks to cancer. We were inseparable and went on an incredible spiritual journey together. We had so many laughs together and supported each other through the tough times. It was so hard when he was dying because I knew that no matter how good a job I did caring for him, in the end my worst nightmare would come true and he would cross over before me. That was 8 years ago. We had individually decided before we even met, that we would not have children in this lifetime, so our rescue cats were our babies. I still consider myself married so I will live out the rest of my life alone, and that's okay. However, imagine my shock to realize (thanks Ben you Putz!) that the only purpose for marriage is the bearing and rearing of children. Quelle surprise! 😲

Shapiro: I don't want the state interfering in my life

Also Shapiro: What does marriage do to serve the state?

Why does Shapiro always sounds like he's on 150% playback

Something tells me if there wasn't marriage people would still 1.) come together as couples, 2.) have children, 3.) stay with each other as long as there's love, or at least mutual respect and affection. Man has been this way long before there's been any religious or civil (governmental) marital rites, and would still be this way if those rites were abandoned.

This guy usually debates young, inadequately prepared students. Pretty nice when he meets a very clever opponent. Clearly, he’s often not the smartest guy in the room…

Interesting how Ben doesn't destroy people who are prepared, only random audience members

The state does not "sanctify" anything, that is religion. The state only deals with a legal relationship

When it comes to rights with marriage the importance should not be underestimated. In 1992 I lived next to these two gay guys who lived together for 20 years they were great neighbors the one guy parents lived in the house behind them and they were just a cool older couple. The one guy was dying of AIDS and it was sad and there comes a time when he had to be hospitalized. Well the shit hit the fan the day he went into the hospital his parents who hated the fact that their son was gay and hated his boyfriend even more accusing him of turning their son gay. The parents barred him from the hospital he wasn't informed when he died and was barred from the funeral when he found out he died. The next thing you know after the funeral his parents show up at the house with the 2 county sheriffs, a U-haul and four or five guys they took everything that they claimed was their son's. The guy next door was devastated they took stuff that were theirs, every picture with the son in it, it was just a horrible sight to see. I couldn't believe that could even happened in the US. So I get why they want the right to get married and I'm sure there are people that will say that didn't happen very often to justify their bigotry and to those people I say FY.

To quote George Carlin, why do these religious types get so wound up about homosexuality and abortion? After all, who is less likely to get abortions than homosexuals??

Ben: “I have secular reasons for opposing gay marriage.”

No, Ben. If you believe in a god who is the arbiter of morality, then you don’t have any secular reasons for holding any moral positions.

My wife had a traumatic brain injury back when she was 25. We still don't have kids and are in our 40s. It's nice to know that Ben doesn't seem to think that our marriage is reasonable or valid. .
Sure... I wanted kids one day, but the love I have for my wife and her companionship is more than the pain we both still endure.
