Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion – the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

I've had 3 378 Weatherby Magnums. The recoil is glorious However with it and the 460 you can get concussions, Detached retinas and fractured Collar bones. I use a leadsled Benchmaster with a 20 lb bag, a Past shoulder recoil Shield. Scopes are mounted well forward even with the back of the bolt. Been collecting Weatherby Mark 5's in all calibers for 40 years. I have never been scope bit called "WEATHERBY BROW".

I did that with my Mossberg .308, I had some 7.62 thousand yard match rounds from Lakewood arsenal. They would turn about the top third of the case a bluish color and split the neck of the case and were somewhat harder to extract the brass. I don't shoot them but once in a great while since they are hard on my rifle. But if someone who I find irritating wants to try I'll slide one in.

I love weatherby cartridges have many of them. I have owned them since young and have overcome the fear of recoil by doing so.
So I believe that overcoming fear of recoil is the key to shooting the larger calibres accurately.

In the '70s movie, "The Endless Summer, " where a couple surfers circled the globe surfing, they found themselves talking to this man firing his rifle at targets. He let one of them fire it. He held it tight, a strong surfer, but it, "Kicked like a mule, " and flew out of his hands.
I used to hear about reloaders who would keep an overloaded cartridge to "prank" friends with, let them shoot the gun, give them the hot cartridge.

7828 works very well in a lot of WBY cartridges ! Old saying, you feel no recoil when the tiger is on the elephants head !……

I've not shot any weatherby, but 300PRC I think is relatively slow burning and I think that helps a lot.
My rifle as configured weighs ~10.5lb, but it honestly kicks lighter than most 30-06 despite throwing in 212gr bullet at ~2850fps.
This is partially because most 30-06 I have shot is lighter, but also seems to just be a property of the cartridge.
It also has a much quieter report than any other suppressed firearm I have used.
I don't know why it has these properties, just that I appreciate them.

yes
the 460 weatherby does kick like a mule.

Although Weatherby makes some really great high end rifles with great ballistics.
Think kicking like a mule is more psychological and proper shouldering than anything else.
Mossberg 3 1/2 magnum has quite a rap but can fire 5 rounds rapid without issues.
Not saying some guns aren't shoulder friendly.
But you're batter assessment in previous videos is more on key in my opinion.
be comfortable and confident.
Not afraid.

I have a few Weatherby rounds, no Weatherby rifles however, of all that I own, 257, 270, 300, 340 and 375, none have brakes, but it is a big jump from a 375 H&H to a 375 Weatherby, I have no issue with it, but many of my mates, and my father, do not like the recoil. I find it snappier than the 416 Rigby.

460 Weatherby out of an 18 inch barrel with a muzzle brake is about as loud as you can get out of a firearm, reaching a noise level of 180 decibels!

Kick like a mule? Not really. I love the 300 WBY. Hate the 300 Win mag.

Ron I believe your mules are very healthy and strong to kick you harder then a Weatherby Magnum cartridge! What are you feeding them darn Mules???

I use a wheelchair and I shoot the .460 weatherby mag out of a mk V. It doesn't kick all that bad. I was a little disappointed with the recoil, because I was expecting a greater kick. My rifle does weigh approximately 12 lbs and it does have the barrel ported from the factory factory. As far as powder I generally use 102 grains of H4895 powder pushing a 350 grain speer bullet for target practice and for taking a water buffalo. When I'm at the range I do, however, bring along 4 cartridges loaded with 110 grains of the H4895 (the maximum recommended load per the manual I use) just in case there is some redneck there who gets to be a little obnoxious. Just for reference I load my .223 with the same H4895 just with a lot less powder than I use in the .460

Take a strong cartridge, put it in a light rifle, then have a little girl shoot it, and yeah, they all kick like a mule.
