Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion – the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

I own one, no muzzle break . It will loosen a kidney stone

It's a lot of fun! With the factory muzzle brake, it's comparable to the .458 win mag.

I found the 378 Weatherby worse in recoil to 460. But yes 460 is a handful!
Want recoil try the 600 Overkill. THAT ONE RECOILS!!!!

We just shot one of these on my channel the other day, it was a brand new on fired 1978 weatherby rifle, the gun was about 12 to 14 lb, we kept our footing but I've seen many people shoot it whose feet came off the ground or we're knocked back. Recoil was insane but it didn't hurt Probably because of the wide buttstock and pad.

Hey have shot the 460 but I found the recoil akin to a heavy push rather than a violent shove. My hunting partner hunts with a 338 Win Mag in a light rifle and it is pure hell. I shoot a .300 Win Mag and have no effect but I am 6'3 and 225 lbs.

Saw a used one for sale at a gun shop in Fresno, CA years ago. The shop owner said the person bought it, shot it once and got some serious scope bite and still had a little skin & blood on the scope to prove that lol. Also my doctor who was an avid hunter had one.

I shot one in the 70’s and I was in my 20’s and the 460 will show how much recoil you can handle on the first shot if there is even going to be another shot🤔😳😂 reminds me of a 10 gauge shotgun with turkey loads but even a little more then that!

It was similar in recoil to my .450 Ne in a Ruger nr1 . I liked it as the middle did not move up, just went backwards in recoil .

I have one - recoil is heavy but manageable with the brake installed. A friend shot it with a 500 grain round and the brake removed and bruised his shoulder with one shot.

I own a 460WBY! And yes it has some pretty good recoil! Since it is the only rifle I have shot in that big of Caliber it is hard to say how bad it really is! But it’s very very stout!!!

I shot the 460 Weatherby without the muzzle brake it has a very violent sharp harsh recoil... twice the 416 Rigby

460 recoil is rough. But it's manageable. The 378 just makes you suffer without choice. Had a bruised shoulder for like a week after the fact.

I would like to see the RUM Series reviewed. I am now a big fan of the 375 and I am interested in the 460...

The 460 isn't that bad. The muzzle brake really helps

I owned one 30 years ago. 8800 lbs of recoil. Only shot 5 rounds in 3 years I had it. Beyond brutal. Someone ordered it left hand bolt and never picked it up. I got it for $1500 from pony express in van nuys

I’ve never shot a 460 Wby but I did own a 378 Wby in the past and currently own a 500 A-Square (A-Square Hannibal) which is essentially a 460 Wby necked up to 50 caliber and shooting 600 gr. bullets. Factory ballistics are listed at 2, 470 fps and 8, 127 ft. lbs. That definitely has more recoil than the 378 Wby (Mark V Deluxe), though the 378’s recoil is a faster and sharper jolt. Neither rifle had or has a muzzle brake. Shooting the 500, I can feel a pressure wave going into my sinuses and a few quick shots can leave you feeling a little shaky! My 500 A.S. weighs 10.5 lbs and probably recoils very similar to a 460 Wby., maybe a tad more. And again, no muzzle brake! 😅

A friend of mine has a Wby 460 Mag. He wanted to know how many times I could fire it. After I pulled the trigger 12 times, I gave the rifle back to him and said that I don't want to do that any more, because my shoulder hurts too much. I think that he was surprised that I could actually fire it that many times.

The 30/378 without a muzzle break was worse.
