To follow us on social media, try:

For our non-English-speaking viewers: Closed captions can be set to any language. Click on “CC” (Closed Captions) at the bottom of the screen to turn them on. Click on the gear (Settings) and a menu appears. Click on “Subtitles/CC” and another menu will appear. Click on “Auto Translate” and a menu of languages will appear. Click on the language you want for the closed captions and you will be returned to the video -- closed captions will appear in the language you have chosen. If these captions cover up some of the action, place the cursor over the captions, press and hold the left mouse button, then drag the captions to where you want them on your screen. Release the mouse button and they’ll stay there.

A mere two days ago, I spent several hours searching how to design cams. I ended up making a faux cam because every source I found was impenetrably academic. "It's a wedge wrapped around a disk" was all I really needed to know.

“A wedge wrapped around a disk.”

I’ve never heard it described this way and it actually really helps with visualization

What a brilliant way to show the mechanical disadvantage of an off-center cam. So simple but so clear.

People like this man, who have the gift of being incredibly good at explaining concepts, are my favorite people in the world.

Defining a cam as a “wedge wrapped around a disk” shows that not only do you know your stuff, you know stuff adjacent to the stuff you know, AND you know how to teach well by using clear language that builds up a pupil.

Wow, we need more teachers like this for the next generation. Simple, engaging, positive energy, and practical as hell

Never had to think much about cams before, but this compacted a considerable amount of information into a ridiculously easily consumable package.

That's just impressive regardless if it's information I'll likely to ever need or not.

Just saw this video and immediately subscribed because of the clear concise explanation of the mechanical application. More media about mechanics should be presented in this format.

I do very basic woodworking. I’m never going to need to know this.

I just love this guy. He’s a treasure.

I’m happy he’s so happy teaching his craft!

This showed up in my shorts, and recognized Nick right away. He taught me how to use my Shopsmith so many years ago. Thanks Nick! Good to see you!

I saw this video first and really thought this was a science channel, but it’s woodworking! Which is equally cool, because now I have a new “genre” of YouTubers I like that I might not have discovered earlier!

I saw cams as an increasing radius but I like Wedge wrapped around a circle and there's always room for more interesting ways of seeing things

I wish I had him as my woodwork class in high school. The explanations and presentations are so simple.
