A tight LSA doesn't necessarily mean the engine will have a rough idle or low vacuum. Case in point is Crane's #2020 cam which is 194/204 with a 104 LSA.  It makes for a smooth idle, around 20" vacuum, and lots of low-mid RPM torque in a 350 with around 8:1 compression.  You can't gauge how a cam's  LSA will affect idle quality and vacuum without knowing its duration.  Turns out a 212/218 cam with 112 LSA has the same amount of overlap, so it's not going to make more vacuum or idle better just because it has a 112 LSA.

So you turned a 331 into a 355? – nice job!
Both cam packages are hydraulic flat tappet kits. I like this pattern for a daily driver. The obvious cam specs are the same; I cannot confirm that the actual valve timing events are identical. Both will need the proper break-in procedure. Both will need a ZDDP type oil or additive for the break-in and then for the life of the build – yes with every oil change.

Hello, I use BMW M50B20 Non-Vanos version. I want to increase torque in the low revs, but can accept to reduce power at high revs. So I thought that if I change the intake cam. The original specification was like this.

Intake: 240º (9.7mm); open: 24º, close: 36º
Exhaust: 228º (8.8mm); open: 38º, close: 10º

If I replace the intake cam with the exhaust cam (In order to reduce the cam angle and lift), so that intake and exhaust cams are alike. What will the results be?

I thought the camshaft turned 2 rotations for every one rotation of the crankshaft?

Good info except the very end, the description of lobe separation is inaccurate. He actually got them mixed up. Tight lobe separation focus is power in the low end torque – mid-range. Wide separation focuses Power Band towards upper RPM

Dumb question.. Do these comp cams have a fuel pump lob? I installed the cam and never thought about the mechanical fuel pump. And at summit, I don't see anything regarding the fuel pump lobe.

Hi,
That's a awesome video. Quick question? I have the cam and cylinder head only, no crank. Can I just put the gauge, degree disk and check duration, than multiple by 2?
