Oh, thank you! I think it's enormously helpful to understand why no matter what the issue is, and I have never seen or read an explanation of aperture numbers before! But if you don't understand why, you have to go with "because I said so, " and you KNOW you hated that as a kid, didn't you?!? We ALL did! So: thanks a ton!

Oh. My Gosh!!! I've never known that the F was the focal length!! I must not be dying today as I learned something!!! I do appreciate the D3500 have the little graphic on the back. I remember growing up having a special mirror that had a small opening in the middle that allowed one to focus more precisely on something small (I think the theory was it would be a search plane). The see-thru cross would let you see the distant plane more clearly. That always helped me think through what the smaller opening would do for me. Thanks for another great video and explanation Paul!

Thank you for such a clear explanation of a topic that has had me "f-ing" confused for ages. The image of f/2 is now fixed in my head.

All I needed was for someone to tell me the number is a divider. It's all crystal clear now! I wonder no other video I have seen on the aperture takes the few seconds to explain this... Amazing video Paul!

Great explanation. The ratio of its focal length to the diameter of the aperture.

Simple and clear explanation. Even after years of using my DSLR, I did not know why they called it F for aperture.
