Do you struggle with moss and thatch, or does your lawn need to be sacrificed or detached?
Well, we have you covered; in today's video, we discuss the difference between scarification and dethatching with a deep dive into what thatch is, why and how your lawn creates thatch and more importantly, how to get rid of excessive thatch for a healthy lawn.

This is a great video for our American and Canadian viewers too

Hi Robbie, I am planning on reseeding 3 lawns, what is the difference in root zone which is made up of a blend of 70% USGA ( graded washed silica sand) and 30% high quality soil ( heat treatment to 200 degree celcius and screened over a 3mm square mesh) and Top dressing made up of a blend of 70% specially selected sports sand 30% graded top soil (heated and screened over a 3mm square mesh), which one is more appropriate Root zone or Top Dressing for a complete lawn renovation.

Scarifying and dethatching are not the same thing at all. People use the descriptions incorrectly because of videos like this and people in lawn Facebooks using the terms incorrectly. There is a reason the cartridges are different and one has blades and the other spring tines.

Robbie can you recommend a good electric or plug in scarifier to buy in Republic of Ireland. I have a lot of moss to get rid off

Thanks for all the great videos. I recently purchased an electric dethatcher/scarifier. I have sprinkler heads for my irrigation system throughout my yard. Can I run the dethatcher and/or scarifier over them without damaging them? Or should I mark them with a flag and direct the machine around them? Thanks in advance!

Hey Robbie my front lawn is absolutely covered in moss and thatch but still good grass growth if kept moist but whenever any heat hits it just burns up any tips other than sacifyijg until the autumn like as a temporary solution for the summer

Hi, I've just brought the elite 401 and was wondering what settings you set it on depth wise regards a deep scarification to a light scarification?

Many thanks Adam

So which one is better now and for what usecase? I usually scarifi in spring and fall and dethatch 1 or 2 times during the summer depending on Poa Annua.

So here's a question for you Robbie. Putting lawn treatments down immediately after cutting, yes or no? The bag says no, but in the real world most guys do it otherwise they'd have to make more visits, and then there's the weather.
