I love that she speaks in the past tense as if it's already happened.

You can still see the boy in his face. He never really grew up. He just made a carapace for himself.

"You have lived too long, nuncle."
"On that much we agree."

No better casting job in this show than THIS dude being cast as Aemond.
Granted, I haven't read the books, but as far as this medium, he is perfect.

Wish this scene between Haeleana and Amond was in high Valyrian.

This made me realize what’s really going on with Aemond, lots of little scenes contributed to it but here it finally clicked for me; he’s still a scared kid who hates being seen as weak.

He spent his youth bullied by his brother and neglected by his parents. He was made to feel lesser-than, and part of him believes it, so he does things to prove everyone and that voice that he’s not weak; taming Vahgar, training with the sword, studying philosophy and history, all these things to make himself into a formidable and fearsome prince. And when he finally gets the power and authority he craves so much, that he believed he alone was worthy of, he is only frustrated and humiliated. He bullies his council around and acts like a petty tyrant, he burns his brother because he made fun of him, he destroys a town and kills hundreds of people just to soothe his fragile ego which was injured when he realized his dragon wasn’t the greatest power in the world anymore.

He can’t even intimidate or control his gentle sister: even as he threatens her you see in his face how scared and powerless he feels. I think Halaena isn’t fearless here because she knows how this story will end, but because she recognizes what is wrong with Aemond: He built himself up as a man but never came to terms with the underlying insecurities at his core.

@0:42 I love how well Ewan is playing this dynamic with Alicent. He doesn't hate her, but you can feel that resentment one develops when a parent fails to protect them.

He let the trauma do the talking with that line

A couple years ago I read Ursula K. LeGuin’s Lavinia and there’s a particular passage that stuck out to me, a young soldier who was injured in battle and acted both cheated and surprised that HE could be the one injured, because he’d built up this fantasy of glorious battle and killing the other side in his head and the idea that violence cuts both ways didn’t figure into that. Aemond’s acting the same way, ever since he got Vhagar he assumed he was invincible. The idea that he could actually die in this war is just something he never considered and having both his vulnerability and his inevitable end shoved in his face like this is devastating.

Aemond steals every scene he is in. Amazing screen presence from Ewan. The make up and outfit on him also helps so much. Very striking.

Alicent finally remembered that she had a backbone after 18 episodes

Even Rhanerya sees Haelena as an innocent and she never thought she would be hurting anyone

I like that his hand hovers her arm, not wanting —or perhaps fearing— to touch her.

"Our very lives are in danger!"
My brother in the Seven, _YOU_ started this war against someone who held down a literal dragon hatchery

I'm sorry, it's a very serious scene and well-acted, but the way Alicent smacks Aemond's shoulder when she's like "god DAMN it Aemond, Helaena is like the ONE good fucking kid out of the lot of you! Don't corrupt her with your bullshit!"

2:50 proof that Aemond is not a psychopath. There’s definitely remorse there.

The music at the end is as ominous and bone chilling as the prophecy Heleana says.
