With examples and Tabs.
In this video you will nail the secrets of the Phrygian Mode and Phrygian scale and learn how to put this dark and oriental beauty into daily playing over Phrygian chord progressions and minor chords. I’ll explain everything about this scale and why it’s such a wonderful asset to you your playing routines. You can play this profound sounding Phrygian scale in different situations over different chords. That’s what you will learn in this video by examples in different styles with tablature on screen. Learn also a thing or two about the major 7 arpeggio and a Steve Vai Phrygian signature lick which is awesome to combine with Phrygian scale!

You can support me on my patreon page (also for tabs of the licks played in this video):

The use of happy birthday is a perfect example of the tone and mood the mode evokes. Imagine looking at someone and singing happy birthday to them this way. It pulls out nothing but pity, sorrow, and darkness.

I agree with you Jose. I’ve been playing guitar for a lot of years and went through the whole lead guitar flash thing and many years later I finally realized I can’t play a song from beginning to the end just the rhythm parts. I would rather be a great rhythm player in the band and leave the lead for somebody that’s better at it than myself.

C'est la meilleure video que j'aie pu voir sur le mode phrygien. C'est particulièrement instructif et ça donne envie d'approfondir. Bravo.

I was in a badly confused state on the phrygian mode /scale ---! Love Flamenco ---so when I found this video I was so enlightened to this scale --
suddenly you opened up the whole thing with Birthday ----a dark version --and Bowies space oddity ---I was blown away by the flat 2 nd --and suddenly everything made sense --I aim no longer in doubt ---most grateful for your teaching !

Great Job this was probably the first time it actually sunk in for me how to actually use a mode. AS the gent below states "from a guy that worked on his technique all these years" THANK YOU.

Amazing way to explain the mode! Finally I could get the difference by exploring in deep only one mode, with real examples and a very clear, practical, less theoretical explanation

I am so addicted to your channel. You have a way to explain things that makes it really easy to understand. Most of the other channels just concentrate on soloing and licks, licks, and more licks....which in all reality unless one is a solo performer helps in no way at all. 90% if not 95% of what we play in our band situations is going to be rhythm. Also, I do not understand how is it that many musicians (specially guitar players) concentrate on having good chops and licks and they fail terribly at songwriting...which is a total shame. Sorry for the rant hahaha...but thank you very much for such a great channel and keep up with the excellent lessons!!!

I am so glad that I just discovered you while digging deeper into the wonderful world of Phrygian! While I do subscribe to some channels I very seldom choose the 'Bell' notification option but I am so impressed by your style and playing that I want to know more about you and what you are up to. I always gravitate to people that I can learn from so thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent. Best success to you.

I criticised your physician dominant video for lacking an explanation of its brighter sister, the phyrigian, but perhaps you wanted us to come here first. This was really clear.
