I don’t think this is related, but adding to the dramatization of deafness, were the first scenes with sign language. It didn’t have subtitles on, and I was getting so frustrated until I realized, that’s exactly what Ruben was feeling like. They start adding subtitles after he learns.

The ending is one of my favourites, if not just recently then possibly ever. The longer they held onto that shot and the silence, the more I soaked it up and felt the full impact of what Riz's character was experiencing.

This movie is a masterpiece. I went from “I feel sorry for him. He’s not going to hear anything ever again.” To “I’m so happy for him. He’s not going to hear anything ever again.” Silence is peace.

Omg I just realised: The sound of metal is not just the sound of heavy metal music but also the sound of metal you get through the METALLIC cochlear implant!

As someone with hearing loss. I used to play bass. Now I can't. I can't recognize songs I used to know. I feel I can't watch this movie without crying. I cant hear these details.
Enjoy what you have.

Favorite movie of the year definetly. The scene where his girlfriend's singing slowly turns into how he hears it with his implant got me crying for the rest of the film... damn

I cried in the part where he hears his ex gf and her father singing. Music will never be the same for him. So excellent and heartbreaking.

So crazy how sound can make a movie so emotional. I nearly teared up when Reuben put on his hearing aids for the first time.

I loved the fact the movie started with the sound of metal music and ended with the noise of a metal bell

No disrespect to Chadwick Boseman and other nominees, but Riz Ahmed has given out the best performance of the year (together with Mads Mikkelsen) and I truly think he is the one who deserves to win this year in any award.

I just got done with this film and man I’m blown away. This is one of those beautiful films which leaves an indelible mark on you. The whole experience was so emotional and the ending was amazing. It just made me realise which I don’t often, that hearing just like other senses is like a privilege which we fail to be grateful for.

SPOILER: The scene where Lou sings with her Dad was, in my opinion, the best use of perspective shifting in the film. They held on the normal audio for so long, finally steadied on Ruben's face, and even then waited what felt like forever to actually shift to what it sounded like for him. They had already shown how unpleasant his implants were, but that moment just really hit it home. So well handled, and it built up so much anticipation.

The sound is amazing, would be disappointing if it doesn't get Oscar nomination at least

The first half of Sound of Metal feels like horror to me. The slow loss of hearing portrayed by the sound design truly brought the experience to life, especially in the morning routine scene. It really explores how our whole identity can be tied to what and how we take in the world.

I've been in bands for over 40 years. I have had some frightening experiences with hearing loss as a result. This film was very emotional for me.

This scene was the most accurate depiction of AA/NA / recovery in general that I’ve seen.

The actor who played the man who ran the deaf center absolutely nailed a substance abuse counselor. I felt like I’ve met that guy when I watched it

Ladies and gentlemen the Oscar for the best sound mixing goes to sound of metal.

The combination of the use sound and perspectives was one of my FAVORITE things about this movie. The scene of him building and testing out his drum kit in the RV while still at the rehab facility is one of the best examples of that. A true masterpiece. I hope it wins well at the Oscars!

This movie was deeply personal to me since I am also a drummer that has tinnitus. I even made my own video about this movie because of how deeply I related to it and it was my favorite movie I watched last year! Excellent video!

This film is so powerful man, I keep coming back to it at times of stress and I feel the need to get grounded during my free time.
