Lyrics:
Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping

And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp

When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening

People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools," said I, ""You do not know
Silence, like a cancer, grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you""

But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming

And the sign said
"The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound
Of silence"

I am 82 years old and a fan of the S&G version, but I am totally overwhelmed by Disturbed's cover. It is fascinating, mesmerizing, and I simply can't get enough of experiencing the emotion.
This is what great music is all about. World class

Me and my husband use to lay in bed listening to this. He passed away due to cancer. First time I sit and listen to this since his death three years ago. Very hard to do

Please pray for my uncle Korey. This is one of his favorite bands he wanted to see live soon. We just found out 2 days ago he has cancer in his kidney, brain, bones... he is 47. I am devastated because he is the father figure/older brother I never had. Please consider.

Thank you

Disturbed, when this came out I was homeless, in and out of jail, and unhealthy. Now I have a house, a good job, and a husband. This song and “Clover Cage - The Secret Of Life” are the two songs that helped with my depression. I just want everyone to know things will get better. We are in this together. I love you ❤🎉

My father passed away last month, he had been fighting cancer for over a year. Last week I was looking at his phone, I scroll down to his YouTube history and I see this song from many different dates. Until the last day he used it. I cried a lot seeing the meaning of the lyrics, it really was very important. I will never forget this song.

I don't understand why everyone makes a big deal on where they came from. who cares where you heard it. it's all about loving a truly great remake of a beautiful song and disturbed deserves all the respect and recognition.

My parents loved Simon/Garfunkel and played their music often. As a teenager, I loved this song. It was one of the rawest, and most true words. Then along came Disturbed, and their version of it. All I can say is WOW. I think I've listened to this a hundred times!!

Two songs, same lyrics, one sang with the sad resignation of acceptance and the other with the anger of resistance. Brilliant

Not a huge fan of disturbed. Like a few of their songs, but most of them felt generic over the years, but holy crap this blew me away. Glad to see that he gave the song the respect it deserves, while still making it his own.
