Ironically both times she was also supposed to be married to someone (in the first movie a hypothetical suitor which would bring honor, and in the second movie a Local Lord in exchange for the freedom of the princesses)

"Boys will gladly go to war for you"
Later convinces the group to follow her lead and ends up winning the war

"With a great hairdo, you'll bring honor to us all"

foreshadows her cutting her hair to sneak into the army.

Back when Disney paid attention to every fine detail and created masterpieces as a result.

Mulan used musical elements so well. Including by stopping mid happy song when shit gets dark and never having a musical number from that point on.
One of the many things the Mulan remakes director failed to understand.

"Striking a good match" Mulan also literally kicks Shang in the face and knocks him down during the 'I'll make a man out of you' training montage.

Also how she puts the chinese chess piece down during that, it could be representing / foreshadowing her skills in military strategies.

"Honor to us all" in general is very important to Asian culture, so it kinda was relevant from the beginning

This song has many hidden meanings. “Striking a good match is one”, where “boys will gladly go to war for you” is another as later on a song plays out called “A girl worth fighting for”. There’s also the scene where Mulan places a checker piece down, and if you notice the two men are playing Chinese checkers, which is ultimately harder than regular checkers. This signifies her having good battle strategies. Also, they talk about hair being important. She cuts her hair to look like a man. The songs in Mulan have many hidden meanings, and to decipher them all would take forever.

The animated version shows Mulan’s struggles and hardship in a man’s world for war. It was tough, but her persistent and determination after not wanting to see her ill father join has her kept going.

She wasn’t all “I can do this” attitude. She knew her flaws and tries to work with what she can do.

Live version of Mulan gave her cheat codes and became powerful from the start.

Actually the line "boys will gladly go to war for you" has a better connection, because later on, when they are setting off into the mountains, the soldier are singing "A girl worth fighting for". It's a great call back, punctuated by them finding the doll, belonging to a girl that died in the hun raid. They found their girl worth fighting for.

Honestly, I think it's more interesting how "A Girl Worth Fighting For" is the last musical sing-along in the movie. The song ends when they find the remains of the village. This was done to highlight the importance of the scene, to draw out serious undertones for the rest of the movie.

In the movie "The Incredibles", The Island that is Syndrome's base is called "Nomanisan"

It's only mentioned briefly on Mr Incredibles 2nd approach, as he's drinking a mimosa, but it's the central theme of the film

Mulan 1998 makes a lot more sense than live action version.

The whole sequence also gives us incredible insight on who Mulan is. She’s often late, she’s inventive, she’s very smart, she can make decisions on the fly, she doesn’t like unfairness and is protective of kids.

I only just now noticed this more fully. In this song, she shows her gift for strategy by beating the old man at checkers. Then she shows her desire to protect others by getting the girl her doll back.

The kids playing out their traditional roles - the boys fighting with wooden swords, the girl with her doll - which becomes a heartbreaking callback later in the film.

I also like how Shang sings "did they send me daughters when I asked for sons?"
Ironically, Mulan is a daughter, not a son.
