those who think accounting will be automated think accounting consists of just basic bookeeping and balancesheets, maybe at an entry level that might still be true but once you get to Controlling, financial management ecc.. it is all about FORECASTING, PLANNING, sometimes controllers overlap with Strategy managers, if anything automation will save time from the petty bookeeping and allow Controllers to get the REAL FUN.

I dont think theres nothing to really worry about if you have not graduated yet, because all you need to do is, take a few electives in IT. Go through your school's course catalog and you will find tons of classes you can take in addition to your business and accounting classes. If you plan on going for the cpa exam, you probably wont have enough credits for licensure so just take 15 to 30 additional credit hrs in IT as a minor or a certificate program. My school has a 18 credit hr Financial Tech program, its basically blending business, banking and technology together. Accounting is here to stay dont worry, take a few extra classes.

I’m an accounting major in NJ (seton hall) about to graduate in a month or so and I love the content, it’s been a big help in the interviewing process and in learning about other concepts I was unfamiliar with.

I worked in federal accounting for 9 years and there is absolutely zero automation in that sector. It is unbelievably slow to adapt to any change in technology; Everything is manually done in Excel workbooks on network drives.

Hiya, Bill! You've definitely earned a new subscriber because I've seen at least five or six of your videos today! I'm currently in my senior year of high school and I intend on pursuing a career in accountancy. However, I have a few concerns I would love some help with and it would mean a lot if you could share your insights on them. So if you see this, I hope you could kindly take a bit out of your time and answer my queries (if your time and energy permits it, of course!):

1 — Would you recommend pursuing accountancy in the US? I'm currently finishing up my senior year in the Philippines via online schooling. My parents plan on sending me to a Philippine university, but I want to pursue a degree abroad. Also, if you have any recommendations on countries great to pursue accountancy, I would love to hear about it!

2 — Would you recommend pursuing a dual degree in Accountancy and a Tech degree (Information Technology, Information Systems, or MIS)? I had the idea to do a dual degree as a means to prepare for the possible automatization of some accounting-related careers. However, I do have my concerns as there are only a few people pursuing this career path. I admit, I'm asking because I am a bit discouraged from pursuing it.

3 — How important is your chosen college in terms of accountancy job prospects? Does going to a good university really impact your chances of being hired in a great company/firm?

4 — Going back to IS/IT and Accountancy, do you have any thoughts on the CISA certification program? I've heard that people who went with the usual path (A Bachelor's in Accountancy), then took the CISA exam around the 2010's are now reaping the benefits of their choices. I'm asking because I plan on taking both the US CPA licensure exam and the CISA certification exam after college with whatever degree I choose.

If you ever see this, I do hope you answer my questions. Also, I'd also love to reach out to you via e-mail, if it would be alright with you, that is? Nevertheless, take care and keep safe! I'm so glad I've found your channel because it is definitely a big help in pursuing accountancy! You're such an inspiration and thank you for posting this, it genuinely helped me soso much!! 🥺 🤍

This topic was research I did in my undergraduate degree, the only difference is that I think shifting accountant to a strategic role is the downside of automation because not all people have analytical skills. and also I never thought of the higher salary as a positive impact. Thanks for sharing :)

Which course or certification we should do now so that our next 15 years in accounts will save and we survive?

Hi Bill, I really like the new intro. Maybe reduce the music within the body. It's distracting. The information you provided in the video was very interesting. Thank you.

Thank you for addressing this important issue for those of us who are thinking of entering accounting as a profession. One question that I have after watching the video is, were accountants not performing the value-added analytic roles at all before automation came along? Or were accountants already doing some analytic work, but automation will only push them to taken on a greater share of analytic work in companies?

Question..Was there already an accountant in that analysis role? If not? is it because the client is not willing to pay for this? So, if this is the case, do we not just lose the AP or AR specialist entirely?
