This is why I don't have any of the new PlayStation 3 consoles and I wish all PlayStation 3 models were backward-compatible with PlayStation 2 games since they're superior to PlayStation 1 games (which can still be played on newer PS3 models). If I remember correctly, I read somewhere a few years ago that backwards-compatibility with all PS2 games was sadly discontinued because it was too expensive to add, so I think someone should have donated at least $1, 000, 000 (US) (or ¥110, 755, 500.00 since Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. is a Japanese company) so all PS3 models can be conveniently backwards-compatible with all PS2 games, which would have made more sense and would have been very convenient in my opinion.

Also, you know what I'd like to see one day? The PlayStation 4 being backwards-compatible with physical PlayStation 3 games! Anyway, nice experiment video!

My and Mohamed's CECHA01 PlayStation 3 works with PlayStation 2 games (hardware-based) and but according to the PlayStation 3 technical specifications, inside the PlayStation 3 hardware has a PS3 CPU-"Cell Broadband Engine" and a PS3 GPU-RSX "Reality Synthesizer" for PS3 games, and has a PS3 "Emotion Engine" and "Graphics Synthesizer", but my PS3 model rings a ps2 disc (EXAMPLES like DDR extreme 2 or supernova 2, etc, so i have to remove them once i bought a skipdr disc repair or JFJ easy pro repair system) and yes, you can play PlayStation 2 games on a Slim or Super Slim using PS2 Classics via the PlayStation Store.

Fun fact: To play any PS1 game and PS2 game (including Nintendo and Sega games) you can just jailbreak your PS3, and you don't need any model it can be any model to play the games! (And no, no models can play Nintendo games, Obviously, You can do that only if you jailbreak your PS3, My sister did that and she installed lots of games for free, Including i downloaded Mega Man X3, Super Mario World and Super Mario RPG (for SNES), PS1 games: Mega Man X4 (so it is it but PS2 games i didnt download any))

You need the PHAT PS3 in order to playstation 2 games

PS2 game only works for the original PS3.
