I bought my first ocarina at a convention a couple weeks ago. I knew what they were from Zelda but never cared abt them until I heard them being played in person at the convention. I’m new to music, but I’ve totally fallen in love with ocarinas now. I already have two more on the way 🙈

I hear you on the collectability factor. I bought a cheap ceramic one to start off, and then another ceramic one to compare the sounds (wasn't sure if the first was in tune) and then I bought a third ceramic one from the same company (STL) as a back-up, and, wouldn't you know it, there was a wooden one from the same section. So now I have four total.
And all together they cost less than 200 dollars.

I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. 😅

I'm still working on learning my Ocarina! I wish I had more time to devote to it, but its hard with 2 kids and the 3rd due at the start of next month. I practice when I can though, even if its just repeating the first lines of a song I'm learning once or twice a day. My husband says its sounding much better though, so I'm glad.

I really do want a Night by Noble, but right now at least I have an STL 12 hole.
I did find out what an Ocarina was through LOZ, though, I 've never actually played the games, I've just seen stuff around about it -and of course heard the name 'Ocarina of Time' before.
Its one thing I was nervous about when I decided to want to play the Ocarina. I didn't wanna be mistaken as a Zelda fan... I have nothing against the series at all, I just don't want to be mistaken for a fandom I'm not part of... yet.

I actually bought my first ocarina on a whim at the Ren Faire last year. It was a small 6 hole for $20... still not sure if its good or not, I need to try it again. But I wanted to keep learning cause I always wanted to play music. Googling song tabs for the 6 hole led Facebook to recommending songbooks from STL. After tax returns came in, I decided to buy a 6 hole from STL, and a 12 hole just cause -both plastic. My 12 hole has been used the most so far lol. My 6yo son is trying to learn the 6 hole that I got him from STL though :)

On the price argument... I just got a cheap keyboard piano. Less than $50, sounds great and is beautiful to play. Best of all, the muscle memory you learn applies to even proper concert pianos. The only bit you don't get is the volume variability, which you don't need as a beginner anyway.

Got a Night by Noble, and it is fantastic. However, is there any way to muffle it? I live in an apartment complex and this b*tch is SHRILL 😂 I’ve tried messing with the sound hole with tape and whatnot with some success, but I’m curious if there’s a better way 🤷🏻‍♂️
