I've literally spent my entire life with a cat by my side. Even since the day I was brought home from the hospital after I was born, my cat Shadow was born the same day. She was by my side for 20 years, and I was with her during her final moments. 

Before she passed, we got Onyx, a diabetic male, and my Willow a few years back. Willow is my stalker and never leaves my side when I'm home. 

I couldn't live without a cat by my side because I've never been without one my entire life. They become more than just pets, they are family.
