In today’s episode of Figuring Out, we have Saloni Khanna in conversation with Raj Shamani. She is an Educationist, Economist, UPSC Interviewer, and also the Founder of ‘Skill Up Foundation’.

In this episode, we talked about capitalism, shortcomings in our education system, how suicide is the number one cause of death among students, and how the value system shapes a person’s life, behavior, and relationships. We then discussed how the media sets the narrative and affects our decisions and behavior. We also talked about the commitment issue that most of our generation faces and how it can be solved.

Towards the end, we talked about the evolution of feminism, the concept of water wives in a village in Maharashtra, and the story of Shiv ji where you gracefully taught the importance of masculinity and femininity. We ended our conversation by talking about patriarchy and the part of women in the suffering of the other women. For such interesting episodes, don’t forget to subscribe to our channel.

My school teachers taught us humility, kindness, humbleness, etc. But when we finished school and stepped out into college/workplace, nobody gave a damn. Politeness, kindness, humbleness are often looked at signs of weakness in our society. I would often be very polite to autowallahs and everytime they would charge me extra unless I fight with them. I have said thank you in grocery stores and nobody has bothered. So these teachings are probably limited to schools or a few schools; but I am glad that you made this excellent podcast so that at least there is discussion on this topic.

Hi Raj, I request you to not interrupt, as I was looking forward to hear her out especially about financial literacy, because she is right that much women aren't aware about the same. For instance, I am a working professional, MBA finance, it is difficult for me as well.

If a soldier in the army cheats on his own country, he gets court marshalled, and never ever allowed to join the army. A Traitor is Traitor. No matter what are the underlying feelings.

I got irritated in the end because of the interruptions by Raj. Raj, you bring great content. But let the guest also share the knowledge.

No, Raj you are wrong. Women dont make financial decisions even after earning. Men take charge of the money earned by women, have seen it closely. Yeah, women might need to learn it but change is happening super slowly.

Raj you gave an excellent example of how women don't talk about money and other stuff in their friend circle and this is so true. And it actually hampers the growth of women in any field and no matter how much equality is provided by external sources, if we don't learn and spread the word, we would always fall prey to false feminism.

I love whenever you converse with an aspirant they have studied so much that they give you right examples to articulate the point and it shifts one's perspective beautifully which is valuable.

Children learn from observation..so when they see cheating, corruption, fighting etc they tend to accept it as a way of life..and when they see people doing all that succeeding and being in positions of power they tend to believe theres no other way to succeed..this is a massive generational crisis

I am suffering from this issue of conversation you talked about and I'm in full favour of it. When I spend time with my female friends, they only talk about their family life and nothing else.

I totally agree, as a woman I have both male and female friends and the financial conversations around saving and investing only happens via men and not women. But mothers are now educating their daughters on financial stability and planning. Probably based on their own experiences and learnings.

Only one input on 'women don't take financial decisions' - not everyone HAS TO do everything. I could invest the time to learn about it and then do it myself but I choose to explore my hobbies and let my partner do it for me. One less thing for me to worry about. I'm not a superwoman and I'm content with that.

She is right. Men can’t digest if women has power of handling her own finances. To provide money to the her parents from her earning is also hard conversation. It’s not easy take the charge in your hands.

I can clearly see hypocrisy or bookish talk in Saloni speech, she is supporting castcism but against capitalism. Strange
Saloni should know that values of people ethics changes with time, someone cheating in school can be an honest husband or person as time passes. That's why criminals ki saza maaf hoti h. Failures during school secure most respectable jobs. Irony happens. Most obedient girls turn toughest to be convinced.

I have a few suggestions to podcasters,

1) If the hosts of a podcast can clock the amount of time taken to ask a question under 15-20 seconds, it would be great pleasure to the audience.
2) If the guests present the research data/statistics/evidence which coherently supports their answers, it would be authentic and more impactful to the audience.
3) If the host can ask the permission of the guest that, if they can interrupt to add their thoughts or sub-questions, it would be more polite and comfortable for all of us.🙏
