As women, far too often we don’t get paid what we are worth. But there are actions you can take to advocate for YOURSELF and ask for what you deserve!

So in honor of today being International Women’s Day, I wanted to share this advice that helped me start to ask for what I knew I deserved.

#InternationalWomensDay is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

#IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people.

Owning your power to make money, to talk about it, to be ambitious and smart about it, to create more wealth and be financially free - is EMPOWERING.

Ah! Exactly the reason why I quit my job last week. It was my first job in a new country, I'm 35+ yo, but I knew I could not let this big tech company abuse my abilities and take advantage of my knowledge for pennies. I took the job because I was desperate at first, yes, but then they started adding tasks and responsibilities so I asked a raise they said we'll see 🙈 so I said I can't keep giving away my time for this company and I quit. Sad thing is they already found someone as desperate as I was to take so little money for that position. But not me anymore.

I'm a housekeeper and this is hard to do. Last week I priced somebody at just over double what they were paying. But they're moving to a new house that is giant and the last person was not dependable. Then they passed on my $215 a week bid. I thought, I don't care that somebody else cleaned a different house for $100 a week..that has nothing to do with ME cleaning THIS house. If you want to pay $100 a week, keep getting the person that only shows up half the time. I run my business as a business and it's not for charity and I need to make enough money for now as well as the future. So while I was looking forward to taking on this house, I was absolutely OK with them passing on my price. I thought $215 a week was fair for 6 hours of cleaning for 7 people & 2 dogs. 3k ft² and wash all 7 beds! Oh well🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank you so much for this. I’m a people pleaser by nature and I always feel like I have to make a concession even when it’s not necessary. I always discount my fee when anyone asks, and sometimes I just offer it even if they don’t ask. My job is very detail oriented and I work my butt off and I always feel regret that I gave a discount at the end of the job. I’ve decided to just get bold and stand my ground. Someone told me that if I don’ t value my work no one else will either.

And now, I'm glad, cause that means I have a value, and those who don't appreciate it, they don't deserve it. And this stand for business too, if you don't value your work nobody will, if you don't charge with confidence, they won't take you seriously. Love you Mel❤️❤️❤️

At the end of my kinesiology course we were told to never sell ourselves cheaply as it would devalue the work and the client would not respect it. I've twice found this to be true. It also has to do with the client's self-worth. "Do I deserve to be better and will I be worth the amount I pay for it?"

I took 1 year to just …love on myself, enjoy my own company, and work on the system that revolves around my daily life like my job, my house, things I need that allow me to live comfortably. The amount of people that were friends and strangers telling my how selfish I was for saying “no I have other plans”…..”no sorry that doesn’t fit into what I want to do today”……”no I don’t think I’d like that or benefit from it” is crazy! They will belittle you and tell you that you’re conceited, rude and boring for not wanting to comply with what THEY would rather see you doing. You are so much more important than that. You deserve it. 💜

I absolutely love hearing this! This is some thing I’m practicing in my business. I always feel bad charging people because I just want to give everybody a break and help everyone else and it’s a practice and I am practicing it every day and it feels really uncomfortable but I’m still going to do it!❤😂
