Great tips. My pops always taught me that if there’s ever a time you needed to ask of something from your boss, always wait until after they’ve had lunch. They’re more likely to be in a better mood if they’ve eaten.

Never underestimate the power of sound advice from a good parent or grandparent. One of the greatest follies of youth is being deaf to the wisdom of your elders.

I spent 7 years in an office job and consistently would only get a 1% raise. I was always 15-45 mins late sometimes an hour or 2. They never fired me because aside from the tardiness I was a top employee. It was a weird unspoken agreement of “I can be late but won’t get decent raises.” It was a high stress job though so those extra minutes were priceless to me. Plus I did the math one time and I got paid about 3 grand just to use the restroom that year.

This man has great business advice for young people that work hard day in and day out 5 to 7 days a week and feel like no matter how much effort you put in, it seems that you're not being considered an important factor or a beneficial asset to the company no matter how early you show up, or how late you stay and work. When it comes to some jobs, sometimes the Gms running the stores, managing the business, have their hand full of select favorites and that can be a big problem !!!

You are worth what you can get someone to pay you.

Silent quitting is gaining traction because employers ask for above and beyond paygrade work with minimal reward tho

I'm all about speaking to what I do and why I'm the best at my role, but going above and beyond isn't in the job description. Join a fucking union and bring everyone up.

I always say it like this… how much more production and profit do you bring your boss to warrant it? Before I entered managing my health and wellness store/ juice cleanse plan place. They made an item that was sold for 1$ per unit and it sold out EVERYDAY!!! Before I stepped in one employee with the processes laid in place could only produce 20-30, 1$ unit items per hour factor in that employee making them wants 12-17$ an hr the margins are THIN.
After I implemented my own production means and processes one employee could produce 220-270 units per hour that are 1$ each. That’s a difference of 3-4$ an hr profit to 210-256$ an hr in profit after I took charge. Then I renegotiated my value and pay afterwards immediately because I proved my value in short time in just one single aspect of his business that wasn’t even retail facing

No employees who work hard and get work done should be asking for a raise as good companies if they truly value their hard working employees, they would give these hard working employees raises to retain them. No raise. no point staying.

If you feel as though you aren't being paid what you're worth, go job hunting, apply, find another job, then ask for a raise where you currently work before accepting the offer. Not ideal and may not work for everyone but the comfort in knowing you can afford to walk away from the negotiation is very encouraging when asking for a raise, in my opinion. A lot of places would rather give you the raise than hire and train someone new all over again to do your job.

I mean I've heard the saying about the answer will always be "NO" if you never ask the question.

I work at Lowe's as a head cashier. Got forklift certified by the company because part of my duties are to make sure the fulfillment people AKA order pullers are caught up at the end of the closing shift.

As soon as I went from customer service desk doing returns/online orders and became a head cashier i told HR to add the forklift computer training to my program and get someone i can do some jands on training with.. The ONLY reason was I know at closing time the only operators are outside garden and lumber area and usually my people i oversee in fulfillment are shunned away when the operators tell them "i don't have time for this or that".. I think it's ridiculous that customers will place a whole online order for basically the materials to make a new deck IE concrete bags for footers, post connectors, 4x4 posts or 6x6 AND the decking material.

But as they say the squeaky wheel gets the oil so if i don't say anything they'll continue on. It's obvious a company wants to work you for the least amount of pay and get the most work out of you.
