Terraria Modding For Beginners | Part 1: Intro

Hello again welcome to part 1 of the modding series I said I was gonna make for the past 3 months. Funny thing is one of the reasons this first part took so long is because I wanted to make sure I was using the correct terminology for everything because if I didn't I know I would definitely get so many comments constantly reminding me of it lol

For anyone following along:

1. make sure to add the respective png files
2. add `using TestMod.Content.Projectiles;` in your TestSword.cs file or else you'll get a type/namespace error

Good info, but please, please don't do whatever you are doing that makes your voice volume suddenly much louder than normal. It makes the video hard to watch when it does not play at a consistent volume from start to finish

Funny timing i just got into terraria modding. Spent 2 hours trying to debug why my custom rocket boots didnt make sound, just to realise you add to define the accessory as a shoe before it would... Like it made particles and flew... No sound though.
Modding is painful, not hard

This video (and others like it) are going to be a lifesaver, thank you so much. I want to create my own mods for challenges or whatever (the first one being a "force mounts" mod so I can do a wolf-only playthrough), so I really needed somewhere to start in terms of instructions.

Unfortunately I don't know how to code in C#, but I do know a slight bit of C++ and Python, so hopefully that should suffice for now and I can learn as I go along.

Ah yes, I'm so familiar with all that spaghettis, definitely will make a mod after this 😢

3:52 As someone who's trying to learn from this video, and having a little experience with Python, I'm pretty sure the example mod's implementation of the status effect got an additional bracket at line 30, essentially making the ACTUAL coding for the on-hit effect it's own section ascending from the public override void.

Coding is just scary like that- any mistake like this can go unnoticed for DECADES, leading to spaghetti code implementations-

Edit: Nevermind i'm blind, that was just faulty copy-pasting-
Edit 2: It might be because of the comment being on the same line? It really SHOULDN'T affect anything but- I DUNNO???

you unironically made it more difficult than reading the forums and skip over things this isn’t directed towards beginners at all
