Boss checklist is great but Recipe Browser is one of the most useful mods I've ever used.

There’s a good one called “Item recipe (something[I forgot the word I haven’t played modded I forever])” it’s really helpful with modded weapons and spawns

Additional tip: ore excavator can also multiply the amount of ores you get in the config!

Hero's mod is more so a creative mode for terraria than a helpful mod to use in regular playthroughs

Also fargo's soul adds soul of eternity that really easy at crafting and very useful

One mod I feel that is potentially underrated or forgotten is the Census - Town NPC Checklist mod

It good because it tells you which NPCs you don't have and how to get them, even some modded NPCs, like Calamitas "defeat the boss for the npc to move in"

My faveroute game changing mod is “evil be gone”, it basicly just stops all spreading bioms from ever spreading
