Self help books are appealing because they just feel good to read. They trick you into thinking you’re actually doing something toward a goal when in fact you’re just reading. And you’re right, once you’ve read enough books it’s time to put them to practical use. That’s when the real self help starts.

I found out that most of them say the same thing so you really don’t need 20 of them. Beneficial if you actually apply the knowledge. Can be addictive and expensive if you love the high of reading. I have started leaning more into other sources like podcasts

I read self-help books, but not “self-help” books…I look for books on anxiety management, self care, learning how to recognize abuse patterns, developing boundaries, unpack trauma’s, DBT/CBT techniques, etc. I like books that focus on writing prompts that help you investigate your thought processes, visualize your future, & learn how to communicate with yourself. They’re good alongside journaling because they can be used for prompts. Self-help books have a lot of toxic positivity, mental health management is the way to go imo. I know what you mean about creativity though, that’s why I’ve implemented the bujo.

Wow 😩 It’s like you read my mind. I’ve always read self-help books and reached a point where I’m like no man I’m wasting time and I never remember what I read from them but with fictional books I always remember the story and learn something from them. I have reached a point where I’m like I’m done with them. And another thing I dislike about self-help books is that they make you feel like you’re not enough and you have something to fix. I can’t believe you made this video it’s like you read my mind.

I could totally agree with everything you said. I recently also made a decision to stop reading self help books. I found myself focusing more on reading rather than actually acting what I read

I 100% agree with your points Adama - I’m also taking a break from self help content because it got to a point where I wasn’t taking in the info anymore

I agree with you 100%. I had an aha moment about this a while back that's why I stopped going to church I'm spiritual but not religious anymore. I always used to seek out the next self-help book but realized that I would never execute. Long story short now in days I set goals for myself and execute to reach him with what I've learned and most of all everyday I'm getting better and better listening to my own intuition as my guide instead of asking everybody or trying to find so many answers and books. I'm grateful for books and for everybody who had a part in my evolution. But now in days I flow with confidence and peace knowing that all the answers to my questions reside within me. Love you all so much take care be blessed!

yesss to all of it! the point that really resonated with me was that by consuming all this material we deem necessary to help us along our journey we forget that it truly just comes from within - which is ironically also what most self-help books preach. capitalism has a way of making us turn around in cycles phew. Thank you for this video!

I can legit relate to this mehn.
Because at a point I started feeling boxed up by the books. I couldn't take in other means of self help thinking I have to follow the books back to back which was not really working for me because I was only feeling the development, I wasn't seeing it physically.

But now, I watch a lot of YouTube videos and I am currently slowing down on the books as regards self help.
I also realize that YouTube is more realistic than books because you get to see the emotions and attitude of that person.

P.s: I am a new Subscriber 👍and this is one of the reasons I am Subscribed to your Channel. Your Channel has been a blessing 🙌❤️.

Def agree with repackaging. At some point it’ll all starts clicking & making sense. Then things will start to sound the same. Like you said there’s a time to consume, research and then need to implement & create. Thank you for your work 🙏🏽

Yes after one book 📕 then you have to put in the action and stay motivated

i think the most important thing is to know when to stop. there was a lot of useful information that helped me but as some point i realize that it's enough info for now and it's time to go and actually do something!

Would say generally on self-help books counter-productive. The Richard wiseman Ruby Wax books i have found useful. Good habits more important than anything i find.

I love self help books….but after awhile I started to notice that while I was reading things that…most of the time I already knew…..I was also not actively doing anything. You spend so much time reading and not doing. That kind of defeats the purpose. I like watching YouTube videos instead. The videos get to the point without the fluff and then I get out and do what I am trying to do or I even do it while I’m watching the video. For example I wanted to learn how to create books for Amazon and I was watching the video while creating my book to ensure that I had the steps down.

Also…..I’ve found that self help books don’t actually teach you exactly what it is you are wanting to learn. Self help book authors just talk around the subject but never actually give you the information that you need. Like the money earning books and the get rich books. Lol

I love your deep way of thinking, may I ask what your sign is?

I think the problem with self help books is simulation.

Same here especially with spiritual books. I have 10 years worth of wisdom and I’ve been living in the illusion as if I mastered my exterior world. It’s a false sense of accomplishment for sure if you don’t actually apply the wisdom you’ve obtained.
