From the reporting of my classmates which is Japan Vs. Philippines using hofstede's multicultural dimensions. My Learnings are that in the category of Power Distance, Japan scores a 54 which is borderline hierarchical. The reason that was given can be seen on their business culture where there is a strict manners and customs. The foreigners also experience that Japan is hierarchical because of the slow decision making process in the society. Philippines scores with 94 which they accept a hierarchical order. The people are expected to be told what to do which makes it not equal. They also accept a hierarchical structure.

In individualism, the Philippines scores a 32 which means they are collectivistic. This can be seen on their family living their extended family. It is also an important part of their lives having their family together. Japan is also collectivistic with a score of 46. It is shown on their way that they are group oriented. They have the mentality that works should be done by team and help each other for example is on the workplace where they wait for everyone before they all leave.

In masculinity category, japan is scored 95 which is very high and 64 for the Philippines.
The evidences are that japan has more male in the workplace and discrimination can be shown. The Philippines is also masculine but not as high as Japan.

The uncertainty avoidance in Japan scores 92 which is very high compare to most countries. One reason is their environment which is prone to natural disasters. They are always prepared with them and also in business, they try to research facts and details before deciding. While the Philippines scores 44 which they have a flexible attitude and such.

The long term orientation for Japan scores 88 while Philippines is 27. Japan is more focused on the future and values education for the future. The Philippines has a short term orientation, they don't invest on education, focuses on having a quick result.

Lastly is the Indulgence, Japan and Philippines scores 42. They are both restricted on their culture and rules. They also focuses on work rather than gratification. This can be shown on clothing, norms and such.

My insights in Hofstede's Cross Cultural Comparison between Japan and Philippines are similar to each but is also very different in their own ways.

For example, Japan in a first world country which means it is developed and has stable economy while the Philippines is a third word country, meaning to say it is underdeveloped and does not have a stable economy.

Japan has a Power Distance of 54, which means they are a borderline hierarchical and is always conscious of the hierarchical position in any social settings and always act accordingly, Foreigners thinks Japan as an extremely hierarchical because of the business experience. Indicating a slow decision-making process as they go through and compare by hierarchical layers as it reach the top management office. While the Philippines scores 94, this indicates that the Philippines accepts a hierarchical order which means subordinated is expects to be told what to do, in short, not everybody are equal.

In terms of Individualism, Philippines scores 32 and is considered as a collectivistic society which means they have "malasakit" and genuinely care and look after one another. One example of the Filipinos being collectivistic is the"Bayanihan" wherein they help people inside their group carry thei houses from one place to another. It shows the collectivism from family to clans to tribes and regional affliations. While Japan scores 46 and is considered as a collectivistic society. One example is Japanese people put harmony of group above the expression of individual opinions. It is said that group solidarity is valued over individualism as a famous Japanese saying that a single arrow can be easily broken but not ten in a bundle.

Meanwhile, in Masculity, Japan scored 95 as they are considered as one of the most masculine socities in the world and Philippines score 64. In the Philippines, they are expected to be decisive and assertive, the emphasis on equity, competition and performances, and conflicts are resolve by fighting them out. While in Japan they are not seen as assertive and competitve as they tend to introduce at such a young age.

In terms of Uncertainty Avoidance, Japan scored 92 which is one of the highest uncertainty avoiding counter on Earth as they are constantly treated by natural disasters such as earthquake, tsunami, typhoon and Volcanic eruption which led them to preparing themselves to uncertain situations, this goes for every aspect of society and not limit to the emergency plan, which we can safely say that all the Japanese people do is prescribe for maximum predictability. While in Philippines, the scored 44 which indicates that they have low uncertainty avoidance. They continue to develop a flaxible attitude and is more open to tolerance and practice is valued above principles.

Now let's talk about the long term orientation of Philippines and Japan. Japan scored 88 which means They are pragmatic because they are more focused on what could happen in the future, they focuses on quality and gives importance to education because they believe that if they study, they wil have a better future, while Philippines scored 27 which indicated that they are more normative. Philippines are focused on achieving quick results that le to having infractures that has low quality and is not focused on education which is why the future of the Philippines has no certainty.

In terms of Indulgence Vs. Restraint of Philippines and Japan, they both scored the same which is 42 which shows that both countries have cultur of restraint which means they have a tendency to signism and pessimism that indicated that they are inclined with negative thoughts. In example Filipinos believed that in order to be deserving of a vacatio, they need to accomplish or achieve something first. While in Japan, respect reflecr people who has power or has a high position in the society. Both countries are conservative in terms of vlothing. In short, Japan and Philippines have more work ethics and have a stricter moral discipline and social norms, and are way more conservative.

My insights about the Cross cultural comparison of Two countries Japan Vs. Philippines they have differences in some way like some attitude but Mostly japan has more different in culture unlike in Philippines. Also japan is first world country.

For the power distance Both are a high, Japanese are strong to hierarchical position in any social settings, and japan is not high power distance. Philippines are content with a hierarchical structure where everyone has a position and is justified by its existence alone.

For the invidualism the Philippines is categorized as a collectivist culture. This is demonstrated by a strong, ongoing loyalty to the member "group, " which could be a family, an extended family, or a network of close friends. Japanese culture certainly shows many of the traits of a collectivist society, such as focusing on improving unity over the expressing of individual opinions and having a strong sense of shame when things go wrong.

Japan is one of the most Masculine societies in the world.

Japan is one of the most uncertainty avoiding countries on earth. Japanese people were taught to be ready for any unsafe situation. This applies to all fields of society, not just the emergency plan and safety measures for unexpected natural disasters.

In Japan, you may observe a focus on the long term in the consistently high investment rate, which is maintained even during economically challenging periods, the higher own capital rate, the focus on steady market share increase rather than quarterly profits, and other factors.

For the Indulgence Japan with this orientation have the perception that their actions are Restrained by social norms and feel that indulging themselves is somewhat wrong.

Japan and the Philippines indeed has differences and similarly since Japan is known to be part of the 1st world country while Philippines belong to the 3rd world country. Power distance, as from its word it talks about the extent to which the less powerful members of institutions and organisations within a country expect and accept that power is distributed unequally and by that, the Philippines scores higher than Japan. While in Individualism, there scores are close enough to each other, Japan scores above the Philippines which indicates that most Japanese has that degree of interdependence and look for themselves as they reached their legal age. Same goes with Masculinity, Uncertainty Avoidance and Long term Orientation. Japan took its place higher than what the Philippines scored in the chart. It only indicates that most Japanese tends to have more male employees, prepared or already learned themselves for any uncertain situation since they are always threatened by natural disasters, and they tend to do they best in life. Though with the last part they both got the same score. This comparison that they have discussed gave the idea of how different this two countries despite knowing how both of them are known for their hospitality to other people. It also gave us additional knowledge that we can use once we visit this country. The presentation was presented accurately and they are informative with the report, overall it was a fruitful discussion to listen to.

My insights about the cross-cultural comparison of Japan Vs. Philippines is that they are almost similar to each other except that Japan is more stricter in some aspects like rules and culture.

Starting with the power distance both have strong attitude towards hierarchical structures. Although Philippines has a very high score which has made some inequalities on the power level. Japan is borderline hierarchical, they have a slow decision process as it should go through the top hierarchy.

In individualism, they are both collectivistic in culture. They work together and decide as a group to achieve their goals. Prioritize relationship with each other. Has harmony with each other.

Masculinity in Japan has a high score. Few females on the workplace. Stereotypes on woman in the workplace. Competition is practiced at a young age.

While in Philippines which is also high in masculinity has more women in workplace. Has some stereotypes for woman in the workplace.

In Uncertainty Avoidance, Japan being struct by natural disasters, they became more cautious about it and they prepare for any uncertainty. This is done also in their business and their daily lives.

The Philippines on the other hand has a low uncertainty avoidance. They are more of religious and let themselves just flow in any event.

For long term orientation. Japan scores high as they want to prepare for the future. They give importance to education. As it can be seen on their technology. They are producing products that would not be for short time only but for the generations to come.

While in the Philippines with a short orientation, they are more focus on quick results. Respecting Traditions. Example is that they don't prepare for the future when it comes to decision like family planning and this leads to poverty.

Last category is indulgence, both scores the same that they are restricted and focuses more on work rather than vacations or leisure. Following the social norms or rules which restrains them. Without any accomplishment, no gratification will be received attitude.
