Microsoft really really should make a debloated "Windows Gaming" version.
- No telemetry
- Bare essential services needed for gaming and security
- No DesktopWindowManager
- Everything set on ultimate performance, always, gamers don't need battery saving/throttles
- Optimized task scheduler that priorities frame threaded I/O and higher priority tick rates of GPUMEM -> RAM -> CPU -> GPUMEM
x86 has it's limitations but I have seen games (with linux support) run at 18% better performance on custom linux kernel + task scheduler than on windows.
-Fullscreen optimizations OFF globally and possible to enable for the apps that need it (I'm looking at you Synapse!)
- Stop the bloody wait cycles of dormant drivers taxing the pci-e lanes. Why oh why does a sleep state NVME or a PCI-e usb3 card that has all the ports empty have to be 'just checking if I am really existing in this pc' every 30-35ms using up lane cycles? Why microsoft????

They would make billions on a gaming windows ESPECIALLY if it would be a 40$ usd add on to windows allowing you to dual boot into the gaming windows.

Not everybody needs to do their office work on their gaming

Hey thanks man! For Someone who wants to get into pc gaming but has got no clue I can say I learnt a ton!! Please make more of these beginner tutorials

Letting your fps go above 60 even with a 60hz monitor is not a bad thing, even if you have a 60hz monitor the more fps you get the less input delay you will have.

You can overclock your GPU safely with MSi afterburner.
The Bios of your GPU has a save mechanism.
You can't overvolt your GPU due the fact that the Bios won't allow it.
The maximum (save) voltage is pre-writen in the bios.
So the only way to put even more voltage into your card up to the point that it could be dangerous, is when you flash a modded Bios (like i did).

Don't know if it is just my ancient GPU (RX580), but i noticed that turning down shadows just a tick will greatly improve FPS. If you are running an older card and struggle to get to 60 FPS, that would be my #1 tip.

titus you should add windows 10 right click context menu in your windows script for windows 11

It is NOT WORTH turning off SSAO for 2 or 3 FPS increase. SSAO adds a lot of realism to shadows and reflected light. The only thing this guy really did to improve his FPS was reducing the resolution to 1080p. Also, good advice if your GPU is not a monster, is to keep post processessing and shadows below Ultra. You can usually reduce shadows to medium and still look great so long as SSAO is still on and get up to an increase of 10 FPS in many cases.

As a competitive first person shooter player, one thing I learnt to aim for in optimizing is to go for best frame stability, settings that give highest 0.1s as possible and most consistent frame time

I prefer to have a higher resolution and adjust graphics features . The first thing I would do with any game is look at PC Gaming Wiki to look for issues with the game that are causing fps issues/problems in general and then to find any optimisation videos for the specific game. These types of videos are great at identifying specific graphic features that have an impact on the fps and in some cases do almost nothing for the visuals.

OMG exactly an hour ago when I was looking into optimizing windows for gaming you uploaded this!

Just wanted to add that older GFX drivers can make a big difference sometime.

For instance I have laptop Nvidia Quadro P2000 GFX card and was running the 472.84 driver and had no performance issues with Elden ring, getting 50-60fps on High settings. Then I updated to the 511.79 driver and got all the stuttering frame drops and black frames everyone is talking about for Elden Ring. Now I don't actually know for sure but I believe this is due to the devs not having tested performance on the newer drivers for some cards. It may not seem like it but even on older cards, GFX drivers can holisticlly change how a program utilizes the card. If the program is optimzed for one driver version and then the former computing pipeline is altered then the program will not be able to utilize older optimizations as they may have been removed or their implementations altered.

This part of the reason wine can run older games better than windos 7/10/11 as it can utilize older frameworks that windows no longer supports. I probably didn't say that in proper technical explanation but thought it was interesting.

Personally, I prefer to have some sort of SSAO on, because it makes certain stuff look worse. Like some objects just stop casting shadows where they should be. Not sure for Elden Ring, since I don't play it. But especially indoors, where you get more of that effect, you can lose quite a bit of those realistic shadows. Also I prefer not to run games on sub-native resolutions when possible, like 720p on my 1080p monitor looks bad. For 4k that is less of an issue, I usually do recommend custom resolution at about 80% of the scale, since it does look fine due to there being such high pixel count. But at 1080p and 1440p, I try to stay away from it and rather lower other options. Though it really depends on game and figuring out which ones have big performance impact and comparing it to visual impact, can take time. And usually you can find quite few options you can drop to like medium and be really hard pressed to see the difference. Sure performance increase is small too, but it adds up and I rather take those options down than resolution, especially at 1080p.

I've been using your debloater since 2019 sir Chris, it really boost the performance of my mid range rig.

I don't personally recommend turning off a setting such as AO, it's very transformative since it gives depth to objects especially when they intersect or are occluded of course.

@ChrisTitusTech hey Chris, excluding your debloat script, why don't you make a full guide on how to optimize windows in order to get better fps in any game, since there are plenty registery options that can give you arround 10-20 fps just by changing some numbers there or by unparking cpu or disabling HPET or plenty of other stuff like these that most people don't really know about which do improve our gaming experience by alot. Would be very helpful to all of us if you could make a video about this. Love your content, take care.

Yoo, nice man, big up to you making this video! I thinkg your way of approaching optimizations makes a lot of sense. When we talking about single player-imperssive type of games, A BIG BIG BIG encouragement to everyone is to study the games options and understand what they do and your experience will be A LOT better. Modifying options that are not well implemented or make drastic impact to performance but not necesarly making noticeable difference on aspect it's the key. I usually TRY to keep the Ambient Occlusion options on or at max, if possible :) this gives the most depth to a game (of course, again, it all depends on how good the implemenations is, some custom shaders do give awesome results). I almost always try the option medium on shadows to see how it looks, if I am not bothered I live it like that. I also try to spot the gimmickry settings, some games have these almost useless (not very noticeable) settings that might impact the performance. I never set Anisotropic Filtering down, don't know why this settings is well implemented in 90% games and it makes a big difference in aspect with almost no performance loss.

HI Chris, this is Skip from Michigan, thanks so much for your videos, even I have been a geek for many years it is still good to learn and support your channel.

The Riva Tuner Statistics that comes with MSI Afterburner was mentioned, but that thing is notorious for making games super stuttery especially when you turn on things like frame limiter. It is really bad with GTA Online for me. Maybe it needs an update or something, but I just chose to find other ways to monitor frametime.
