We figured this out in 3rd grade back in 1993. We also went hardcore and bent one side of the staple to make a sharp point when it launched to increase the probability it would get stuck in your friends eyeball.

Hahahahaha I'm so glad this hasn't died out. We used to do this all the time in middle school and always got them taken away by teachers. #WorthIt
Another way is to hold the staple with your upper and lower front teeth (so that the staple is positioned vertically with the prongs facing toward your mouth). You gotta have an unbent staple though for it to work and sit correctly on the tips of your teeth. Then just bite down enough so the staple shoots out of your mouth. Only downside is there's no aiming accuracy hahah.

we used to do snap pencil battles. i remember mirado black warrior pencils were the hardest to break along with ticonderogas.

Another neat one that probably would cause way more damage, is a piece of gum, a tack and some paper. make a square out of the paper, fold along the diagonals, put the tack through the paper where the two folded lines meet, and wad some chewed gum to hold the tack to the paper. Now you have an improvised lawn dart lol.
