In this tutorial, I'll show you how to saddle stitch bind using staples, with a focus on just the binding method itself. This can be useful if you ever need to mock up a pamphlet without sending it to a printer. This can also help you make your own comic book.

Materials:
• Paper (cover and pages)
• Staples (3)

Tools:
• Pencil, ruler and cutting mat
• Stapler
• Binder clips
• Utility blade (or x-acto)
• Book press or weights (optional)

Okay heres the trick i use.... Using any king of eraser place it on the bottom of the booklet (where the staple will go ) then open wide the stapler and punch it where you need, the stapler will pierce through the paper and eraser then do the same steps of folding the ends of the staple....voilaa

This was so easy!! I used a thumb tack with 8 pages of 24lb paper and a kraft paper cover, went right thru! I can easily make all my traveler's notebook inserts now :) Thank you!

Another method that I used to use is: slip a piece of eraser under the spot where you want the staple to go. With the jaw of the stapler open, 'staple' onto the page and the eraser as if you were stapling something onto a notice board. Flip it over, pull out the eraser, and then push down the legs of the staple (with your hands or with a ruler). Done :D

I can't thank you enough. So I said a silent prayer for you. Seriously, this is such a helpful tutorial, kind of like one of those tricks that make me think why I never thought of this!

Excellent video--so clear. The clips are a great idea I never thought of. This method may actually result in more exact "stapling" than using a long stapler. Thanks!

Nice tutorial! You might consider working with "unused" (not folded) staples, as folding/unfolding/re-folding might make them break.

Another thought is that instead of stapling then unfolding it, why don't you just use your fingernails to scrape one staple off one at a time...

I bought a stapler with long arm for doing the exact same thing. But it's good to see what the proper machine looks like
