CAST ON ✨ This is the first thing you need to learn in knitting. Simply because it is the start of any knit project, you can’t avoid it!

There are dozens of cast on methods out there. It can be confusing if you’re trying to learn by yourself… Don’t waste your time! We’ve tried them and this is the best one to learn, and the one that we teach in all our online classes and DIY kits. It’s called the LONG TAIL CAST ON.

Why is it the best method?
✔️ It’s easy to learn, making it accessible to beginners.
✔️ It creates a strong foundation. Other methods can unravel or become loose over time.
✔️ It creates a neat and stretchy edge, suitable for all kinds of projects: scarf, hat, sweater… Which means you can never go wrong with it.

It does have a drawback…
❌ As its name suggests, the long tail cast on method requires to leave a tail of yarn, and it’s not easy to estimate its length. Make it too short and you won’t have enough yarn to finish your cast on and you’ll have to start over. Make it too long and you’ll waste yarn. In our beginner online classes, we will always tell you the exact length of yarn you need to leave for the tail. If you need to estimate by yourself, a good rule of thumb is to leave 5 cm of yarn for every stitch your pattern tells you to cast on.

What do you think of this method?
