Volkswagen T-Cross R-Line SUV review - just a Polo on stilts?

Picking an SUV in the Volkswagen range is pretty straightforward. Want the biggest and the best? Go for the Touareg. Need something a bit smaller? Then the Tiguan is the one to go for. The T-Roc, meanwhile, is more compact and has sportier styling. And at the bottom of the range is the star of today’s video - the VW T-Cross.

Underneath it's funky looks is the same underpinnings as the VW Polo. That puts the T-Cross is direct competition with some big names like the Renault Captur, Citroen C3 Aircross and even some models from within the VW Group such as the Seat Arona.

But as is the case with most crossovers, the T-Cross can be significantly more expensive than the Polo that it’s based on. With that in mind, is the compact crossover really worth the premium over VW’s supermini?

I've had the SEL version for 2 years. I picked it because of the ride height. I tried ever different manufacturer for the right one as I have a back problem. Good mpg and ride quality. I'm about to upgrade to the R line this month.

I can’t agree with your comments on the interior, I had one for a courtesy car when I took my Wife’s Golf 7.5R in for a service, the build quality and the mass of cheap plastics were from the 1980s, I also had test drive in Golf Mk8 R which feels much less solid than old R, the touchscreen was difficult to use, and the touch controls for the climate was madness...what’s wrong with buttons...
