VW T-Cross 2022 review: Is Volkswagen's smallest compact SUV smart enough for a family?

preview_player
Показать описание
The VW T-Cross might be the most compact SUV that Volkswagen sells in Australia, but it could actually be a better choice for family SUV buyers after a smart crossover that's small on the outside.

That's because - being based on the impressive Volkswagen Polo - it has a really nice drive experience to it. But, crucially, it's more thoughtfully packaged than the VW T-Roc SUV that sits above it in the size spectrum, and it has a bigger boot capacity and nifty sliding second-row seating.

Is it perfect? No, but you'll have to watch the video from our family reviewer, Helen Frost, to see what she thought were the biggest pros and cons of this little softroader SUV. And remember, she was driving the VW T-Cross Style 2022 model, which, when filmed, cost almost $34,000 before on-road costs and options...

I got mine in Feb '21 in energetic orange and get 6.4L /100km. It's a great suburban vehicle and I have had zero issues and no regrets.

Mine is 3 years old, averages 6.8litres per hundred in mixed driving conditions and has generally been reliable. Only snag is the DSG is jerky at low speeds and those hard dash plastics are starting to creak and rattle especially on rough roads. Vw should also retire the stop/start system which has the worst calibration of its ilk...

It's a pity that this review seems more about the R-Line package for the wealthy and not simply about the T-Cross. Can most families afford an R-Line?

Buy the LIFE edition and buy all packages with it. You are much cheaper. There is also no difference in the 95 or 115HP. And go for the 16 inch wheels to save fuel.

I had this car as a loan car from VW Australia twice. But got to tell that I would not even entertain on ever owning one.
First off there is this ever so often annoying loud enough whining from the transmission.
It is worst than on my Golf R! Who wants to listen to that and wondering in what might be wrong with this car?
Then there is the cheap feel and look interior.
Two turning knobs on the entertainment screen takes it back looking dated. It looks rather basic inside.
Driving it is a normal average.
All reasons for me in sharing this.
In contrast the Ford Puma I owned for two years was way ahead of it in every aspect.
Compfort, style, ease of drive, economy and plenty of tech stuff not found in the T Cross, yet they are similarly priced.
If I did not end up having bought a Golf R, I still be driving the Ford Puma.

In contrast

Hired one of these . Car is nice to sit in but the ride is harsh in the back and the road noise is not good on certain roads . The electric power steering has a strange feeling at speed and hestitates when switching lanes on a motorway … it fights when you try to change lanes . I wouldn’t buy one

No hybridation in an expensive car mainly thought for urban use seems nowadays a big mistake.

Seems like it's based on VW Taigun/Skoda Kushaq.

I don't own this car, but was compelled to leave a review after driving one for a weekend. Why the hell anyone would buy this car I have no idea? A serious lag when you put your foot down, unresponsive lacklustre power, crap instrumentation, uncomfortable seat and crap buggy electronics. Seriously if you buy this car you need your head read.

Oh dear. This reviewer is no better than reading a sales brochure or listening to a salesman. Only made it 5 mins in before I had to turn it off
