NEW Volkswagen T-Cross Review!

Volkswagen has been forced to give its T-Cross a rethink in a bid to take on its biggest threats, the funky Nissan Juke and sporty Ford Puma. With exterior tweaks and a new colour, as well as tech upgrades to go with an interior lift, the 2024 T-Cross doesn't just get a facelift - it feels like a substantially better value offering. Join Sam Sheehan as he explores whether that's enough to take down those rivals...

Using a 1.0-litre petrol engine, the T-Cross comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, but our R-Line test car uses Volkswagen's optional seven-speed automatic. With 115hp and a claimed 49mpg combined, this compact SUV (aka crossover) promises pace and efficiency to suit family life, a high-mile commute, or even a weekend getaway.

With Google infotainment software and incoming ChatGPT functionality, the 2024 VW T-Cross can handle wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The digital screen ahead of the driver is customisable, while the sliding climate control dials are surprisingly tactile. The view from the driver's seat is clear thanks to your vantage point, while your view back is enhanced by a reversing camera.

Open the boot and you'll find a Ford Puma-rivalling 385 litres of storage space, easily enough to carry a large suitcase, with more room under the floor. Slide the back seats forward and you'll have 455 litres. If you want to see how much more you gain with the seats folded down, watch our video for a full demonstration.

I looked at one of these before I got my Skoda Kamiq. The Kamiq has a longer wheelbase, which mans a longer load bay with the rear seats folded. I also felt the Kamiq was nicer to drive.. I can also have the sat/nav map displayed both on the screen *and* in the digital instrument cluster with the Kamiq, which - as you discovered - isn't possible in the T Cross.

Great review once again! Sam I need your help! This VW tcross or the new Citroen c3! I think that the Citroen might be smaller but is roomier inside (minus the boot of course)! What’s your opinion?

I bought one, it's the 2021 pre face-lift though. And I absolutely love it - for me a lot the things people don't like are actually the things I do like, like the manual handbrake and ignition key :) It's a well designed car and enjoyable drive!

An ignition key and a manual handbrake are sadly deal breakers for me .

It seems that this car on show is missing the blind spot monitoring on the side windows. Will they put these on later?

The car is a piece of sheeet. Can't even get near the Skoda Kamiq. There is no light for the blind spot, no navigation in front of you, only on your right, navigation doeant show anything, on the kamiq u have the gas stations, restaurants etc, back door for groceries, etc doesn't open automatically, sensors only front and back, not 360, u need the key in to start, no button. I'm really disappointed

Interior looks very dated and the exterior is the usual Vanilla VW.

Na not for me at £23, 000 and the touchscreen looks like an old 2016 model

Another very overpriced, poor quality and unreliable entry from VW. Yet there are those who will buy them just because of the insignia on the grill.
