I'm sorry, there's only room for 1 queen in every castle. My sister in law got kicked out after trying to live with us after 6 weeks. She was 17. She entered our home and started turning it upside down. One night, she called the cops on me. I told my husband, she can stay since it's your little sister but I'm moving out with the kids (ages 1 and 4). She was gone the following week. You can't allow anyone to enter your marital home and disrespect it.

I wish there was a "This is where they are now" kind of update segment to some of these stories. Want to know how this turned out.

My mother-in-law lived with us for 8 years and I told my husband either she goes or I go. She went.

So...the mother-in-law was caught stealing from her employer, but she feels like she's "put in her dues" working her whole life?

I would move out and let my husband know to call me when his mom is gone.

Sounds like the mother is seeing her son as her husband

This woman deserves an award for putting up with all this.

she doesn't need to work full time because she has a free place to live.

55 and healthy...get out!!! Dave is spot on!!! There is a huge difference between "HELPING" and "ENABLING" I had the same situation with my 25year old son, good kid and works full time. He had no goals or a future outlook, so it was time for him to move out!

I understand this so well. MIL stayed w/ us for 7 yrs. We were paying $350 for her studio apt. I had her move in w/ us because the rent was going to increase to $550. From Day 1 she made life hard, acting like the queen of the house. Always insisting her way. Not wanting to help much w/ the kids. My SIL took her in for almost 2 yrs, but her husband couldn’t stand her too & she returned to us . Finally I had to tell her to accept the senior housing that was made available to her. She said she didn’t like the location. I had to kick her out of the house. She has now lived in the senior housing for 7 years. She enjoys it there, having her independence. We see her once a week, have a better relationship & give her $100 a month.

We lived with my husband's mom for 2 years. It pretty much ruined our marriage. And his mom is a good, sweet, caring person.

"Help with the kids" heard that one before, that one is usually a lie

If she were ill/disabled, much older, or actually taking care of the kids in lieu of paying rent I could see it, but this is absurd.

I remember back in 2008 when my grandmother was still alive, she told me as I was about to go on an unforgettable date “Do not marry this girl until you have your own home, you never want to have to choose between your mother and your wife if any issues arise”

She had 8 sons and daughters so I’m certain she was speaking from experience. I’m thankful for her guidance.
