Mojang should just hire some of this modders at this point, this guys are making Minecraft look like an actually actively updated game

This is legitimetly how Minecraft should look like by default. It looks so natural and LODs are a no brainer for any open world game

Once Distant Horizons 2.0 comes out officially I will never play without it. I've been playing with Distant Horizons shaders for a couple of days and it just restored the love of Minecraft in me.

I recommend using another mod called "chunky" alongside with DH. It essentially preloads all of your chunks (within a certain radius, most set it to 6000) making distant horizons load all of the chunks faster, which also give you more performance as a plus.

Just an FYI, but it seems that you never actually went above 200/300 chunks rendered.
Distant Horizons has to load in all these chunks, process them and then display them.
And because your CPU Load setting (just 2 under Render Distance Input) was set "Low Impact" it never actually had the chance to load them in fast enough to really see it. (You can see chunks popping up in the distance to see the actual speed). For presentation purposes, I'd recommend setting it to Aggressive, as it takes quite a while to load them in normally. You can look around and actually see the chunks loading in the background.
The only chunks you really saw were the ones that were already preloaded before, so increasing the distance made little difference.
That's also why you saw that some chunks were missing. And quitting the world and re-entering it just causes the mod to load the already cached world data.

It’s insane to me that Minecraft doesn’t natively support LOD. Its a no brainer

distant horizons or bobby actual allows for real exploration, unlike vanilla where u look at a fog border and hope for the best.

Holy moly....oh, hey, my computer is on fi... *distant explosion*

8:02 it looks the same because it would take a *VERY* long time for Distant Horizons to generate chunks (4000x4000)

I remember seeing ilmango play with Distant Horizons in his peaceful skyblock world. He could build farms kilometers away and still be able to see those farms back at spawn. Distant Horizons really is incredible. Glad to see it get more reach.

minecraft takes two years to add a single mob and a couple new blocks and calls it a “major update”

They just need to hire these people already

I wish Mojang would add something like this to Vanilla

I'm an avid Bethesda game player and modder, my mind was blown until you said LOD's, and then I was like oh well yeah duh. It's such an archaic of long distance rendering but it almost always proves to be better than full rendering.

The gaps in the world are from you leaving the world and interrupting the chunk loading task. It's worth checking the Impact setting in the menu to the highest setting, sit at 5fps for like 2 minutes, then set it back to minimal when working with farther render distance. I currently play on a world at 2048 distance with no issues. You can also hit F3 to see the running tasks.

Minecraft community is amazing, what were microsoft devs doing with the game this whole time? there's a guy that made this incredible mod, and at the same time, Mojang with F**ing Microsoft is tryint to release some wolf skins for 1.20.5 )? doesn't make any sense to me, and I'm saying this from a POV of a Java Software Engineer.

1) updating the settings can take a while, especially when generating as more CPU time is dedicated to generating rather than updating the terrain with new settings.
2) the gaps are result of interrupted generation, they only appear in the LOD areas (ie if you visit them they will still be there) the 2.0.2 version of the mod did not save correctly which areas are actually generated.
3) generation is slow in general, because Minecraft chunk generation is slow, generating 256 chunks RD can take a hour or two.
4) most limits in settings are arbitrary, there is debug option to bypass it
5) DH does not like when you constantly turn shader on and off
