The Bobby Mod is BETTER than Distant Horizons?

I don't really think so, but it depends on what you're looking for. I love Bobby for use in multiplayer servers, but in singleplayer Distant Horizons is way cooler. That shader support is really cool though, so maybe I'm wrong.

so one mod is a level of detail mod and the other just loads in preexisting chunks

Bobby isn't an LOD mod, it's a client-side render distance unlimiter, and it only has any effect in multiplayer. It's not fair to compare the two.

DistantHorizons 2.0.2 actually has shader support!

The thing about Bobby is because it's not using LODs, it is horrendously unoptimized.

they serve different purposes, whether or not one is "better" just comes down to what you need

Bobby is literally just regular minecraft render distance but with extra steps for multiplayer.

To me it sounds like Bobby gets better performance, but is limited to the chunks that have already been visited/loaded, while DH is able to load chunks that haven’t been visited/loaded before in exchange for a higher performance cost.

I've tried both and yes, bobby can supports shaders way easier, but bobby will never reach the distances that DH can reach. We are talking about 100 chunks with bobby and 500-1000 with DH

Now Distance Horizon us getting shader support thanks to Iris team.

Bobby + Nvidium is pure luxury but the only downside is no support for shaders ofc because it's mesh technology

Bobby looks better with what appears to be RTX but you also gotta respect distant horizons og minecraft terrain!

I reccomend using them together. Distant Horizons allows you to see way further than Bobby for much less performance difference, and Bobby allows for greater detail in the areas in your vicinity.

There's also a mod called farsight that does the same thing as Bobby. Works well for me

Well distant horizons is also caching all yout visited chunks and saves them in a seperate file. If you share a pregenerated distant horizon LOD cache everyone can see the whole pregenerated world independent of the serverside render distance. I pregenerated my server world in singleplayer with chunky and shared the resulting LOD files with my friends and it works like a charm

You can use bobby at the same time as DH

You can also use bobby and distant horizons at the sametime. For example set your actual render distance to 16, then bobby's max render distance to 512 and set the distant horizons to also 512. And voila, your game now loads the LOD chunks of distant horizons in multiplayer.
Distant horizons also support some shaders, like BSL for example, just set the right settings for distant horizons and it will work perfectly.

DH has shader support now and Bobby doesn’t use LOD’s

Bobby is cool but you actually have to move your blocky body to see the world which I don't like.

The two mods serve completely different purposes and comparing them doesn't even make sense.

Also, DH has built-in shader support for iris now, so...
