As a triple negative breast cancer 5 year surviver i have to say that chemo affects everyone different. My chemo was very aggressive regimen and definitely kicked my butt but i got through it and so can you. Chemotherapy is different for everyone and i was a very healthy fit 52 year old but i could not work and definitely couldn't work out. I slept pretty much through most of it, lost 30 pounds due to metal mouth, nausea and no appetite
. I dont want to sugar coat this. It can be difficult but you will come through it ok. Keep the faith.

I had chemo 33 years ago. Things were different then. Cancer visited my life in the form of breast cancer. I had a cold cap; saved half my hair. I got some mouth sores.. Nothing tasted right but I found I loved pumpkin yogurt! I slept, and slept, and slept. I had itchy skin. I drank gallons of water. I had chemo brain. I drank No alcohol.it was very hard on me but my kids were 9 and 10 and I am a single mother. All I wanted was to live! God has been very good to me!

I’m also having my chemotherapy right now and my 4th round on Monday. Everything you said marina is true and I’m going thru it . Just be positive and have faith in God and believe in his love. But my oncologist said that I will not lose my hair with colon cancer treatment. Whenever I had my chemo day I feel all of you mentioned specially nausea and no appetite, tired and sore body . But I drink plenty of water to flash out the medicine and take plenty of sleep rest . The best medicine is prayer. Thank you for all the sharings.Praying for all cancer patients. We are strong enough to fight.God is Good.

I have metastatic breast cancer and went thru 12 rounds of IV Taxol. I'm now on oral chemo/hormone treatment and doing well. Agree with everything you said, Marina. I used nail strengthener polish on all my newly brittle nails during chemo. I have permanent neuropathy in both feet--just numb and tingling but no pain so it's tolerable. I took Gabapentin for a few months which didn't help and caused me to be so sleepy I could barely function. It's a great drug for some but not for me and it didn't touch my neuropathy. Neither did Alpha Lipoic Acid but I am still taking it till I finish the bottle.

When you switch to oral chemo/hormone or targeted therapy, please keep a strict schedule for your meds. I take mine every 12 hours (8 am and 8 pm) and they seem to work better this way. I take Verzenio and Letrizole and have absolutely no problems with either med at this time. I got thru the worst of it (severe diarrhea in the beginning) and did fine.

I found the biggest help for me was to eat small snacks every few hours rather than full meals. Everything with high protein was good for me as I lost so much weight during my chemo. I love hot soup, yogurt, and kind of fell in love with Ensure drinks. They make an apple drink which is delish and great for protein intake. I ate more eggs, cottage cheese and applesauce. Even peanut butter on crackers was easy to eat when I literally had no appetite at all.

I had very little nausea but my main symptom was extreme fatigue. I think I slept more during that year (IV chemo plus starting the oral chemo) and it was rough. My advice to all starting chemo: STAY POSITIVE. You will get thru it. It's challenging but do-able. Get plenty of sleep, gentle easy exercise or more if you can stand it. Eat well, eat high protein and low or no sugar. Hydrate. Take a daily multivitamin which will help. Best of luck to everyone fighting cancer. It's not the end of the world for most. It's just a bump in the road but can be overcome by the majority who are diagnosed. Praying for all of you.

My wife just got diagnosed with stage 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, the common version of breast cancer. She's starting chemo soon before she goes for the lumpectomy to remove the tumor so she doesn't lose her nipple. I'm praying she recovers well from this; cancer took my grandpa, it won't take my wife!

I had a double mastectomy in November. I definitely agree with all your tips. Spicy food was something I craved. I ate whatever I could tolerate even though it may have not been the healthiest but it was calories. The neuropathy is what I found horrible mine is permanent 😢 the main thing is keeping a positive attitude attitude. I pray for all of us cancer warriors ❤

I had surgery, chemo then radiation. I'm on chemical treatment now. I'm a male so was totally blown away when I found out I had bc. It had spread to my lymph noids. I experienced almost everything you mentioned but had a hard time eating and even drinking water. I wish I'd come across this before I started going thru it all. Hopefully a lot of people will read this before they start the journey. Thank you for sharing!

I hope you are doing well! As a side note, liquid fasting (no sugar) 2-3 days before, the day of and the day after chemo treatments is extremely helpful. It dramatically reduces the side effects of chemo and accelerates tumor shrinkage. New research is showing that fasting can be a very effective cancer treatment, in addition to chemo, and even on its own.
