Altra Lone Peak 5 - A Road Runner Tries a Trail Shoe

Will the updated Lone PEak 5 be too “trail” for this road runner? Or is this a trail shoe that can make a road runner happy without sacrificing trail performance?

I run using miles rather than kilometers but I appreciate you including km because I'm always having to google or Siri what Fahrenheit is in Celsius whenever North American YouTubers run in winter. Good on you for being inclusive.

Thanks for the review! I have this shoe and its absolutely amazing on the trails out here in California. However, I haven't done any road running on these yet. There are trails near my home, but road running is required to get there. Your review gives me confidence in knowing my shoes can handle getting me to where I want to go.

Just wore mine for a Ragnar Run Relay! Incredible shoe! The trails I ran in were covered in rocks and mud. This shoe not only protected my feet from getting wet and cold, but it let me actually run! Thumbs up from Wisconsin!

I picked up the Hoka Speedgoat 4 GTX for $89 at a local shop and did my first run. I tried the clifton 7 and hated it but the Speedgoat felt so damn good and secure on a trail run with hills and I want to use it all the time on the road. Its gonna be my winter shoe and gonna wait for other websites to discount them because its so damn good.

The only Altra I ran/run in is the Vanish-XC ( same colorway as your Lone Peak) but it’s way more minimal. I love the shoe for 5k distance. It’s not the best on paved surfaces, but it works. Thanks for continued coverage of off-road shoes that work in the city.

10:30 Nice note to say you found the LP5 was serprisinly comfy on tarmac too, before you hit the off road... thats a bonus to me as almost all our club runs are 1 1/4 miles away from the car park before we hit cross country and tarmac mix for 8 miles is great to hear.... hope to give feedback... shout if I don't

I always wore the superior since the model but recently got the lone peak 4.5 and I’m in love. Same great fit but that little bit of extra cushion is great for my longer trail runs.
