1) By inviting his Wife to Albuquerque, to the same region where Werner was being hunted, after absconding from a secret contract;
2) Stupidly informing Lalo about his identity and business, which led Lalo to his Wife's home back in Germany.

For a guy who was so smart and talented Ziegler killed himself being so stupid. He took no notice of the people he was working for and that project he was working on must've had very serious consequences as to why it was so top secret. I never felt less sympathetic for a character than him.
