I may not know Marxist theory very well. But i know that orthodox marxist communism requires the complete abolition of class and overthrowing of the state. From what i gathered, it's supposed to be a complete Democratic and communal ownership system. Lenin and Mao had an idea of the world not being ready for this abolition and had to build a state that serves as a "guiding hand" that maintains the path towards this "inevitable" goal. Stalin obviously had other ideas. Obviously, history didn't show socialism that well and had some questionable people and questionable decisions with no proper checks and balances. The system itself seems problematic, but there is potential

There has never been a Communist state because a Communist state doesn't have a social class. There have been people that identify their nation, party or themselves as Communist, but I can claim the sky isn't blue too.

Jordan Peterson is supposed to be an intelligent figure who knows all about politics. Despite that, he doesn't even know the basics of communism.

China, Cuba, and Vietnam are all proving that wrong without "me" running it, so I have no idea what Peterson is talking about. Maybe that used to at least superficially appear true, but now with the quality of the life in the West all simultaneously tanking it's pretty hard to make that argument.

It has been tried and does work and it's truth is in the name, "Commune." Marx derived his ideas from how people who live on communes like monasteries thrive in peace without exchanging money.
It's not applicable on a national scale in that way, for a regional example look at the Basque region of Spain and the reaction of Spains government toward them.i
